Anyone use a non-camera bag for WDW?

I have a Nikon D80 and honestly I don't bring it around with me enough (at home) and when I do, I ****cringe**** prefer not to take my camera bag and ****cringe**** toss it in my backpack. I have a 2 year old so when we go places (zoo, beach, park, etc) I really want to have it with me but wrangling a sprinting toddler, my mom bag, camera, camera bag gets old and I just don't. :rolleyes2

I'm looking for an everyday bag I could use on these occasions, where I'd need to pack a couple Pull-Ups, Wipes, juice box, my mom stuff (money, cards, keys, phone),and of course a random mathbox car or tangled book :rotfl:

I can sew, so I will be more than likely retrofitting the interior of this "everyday" bag with cushioning suitable for a dSLR. Anyone have a reccomendation for me? I was thinking perhaps a smaller backpack or one of these baggalini models: http://www.baggallini.com/the-collections/classic/messenger-bagg/

Really I prefer backpack than over shoulder designs right now becuase like I said...I've got a sprinter. Thanks for your input.:thumbsup2

I keep my camera around my neck with a Lenscoat bodybag on it. And I have a habit of tossing whatever additional lenses I bring into my hip pack.

I have used a non-camera bag in the past. Not at WDW, but on several other occassions. I have used a regular backpack with a sweatshirt inside to "protect" my camera, and kept my extra lens wrapped up inside the sweatshirt. I have used a similar set up with other bags & something for protection, and I have never had an issue. Granted, it's probably not the best protection for your camera, but it worked for me when we went to the caribbean and other trips around the US.

I have a Tamrac Adventure 7 backpack for my camera these days. The bottom section is a camera bag, but the top is an area like a regular backpack to hold whatever else you need to carry with for yourself and your family.

Good luck finding what works best for you - and protecting your gear!

That Tamrac sounds neat! That's exactly what I need. I usually do the sweatshirt thing in my backpack as well. For ease of travel & photography, I'm not going to be bringing extra lenses this trip.

I should probably look into a nicer strap, Mine bothers me and it's really shirt so I kinda don't love having it around my neck.

The Crumpler Industry Disgrace is a really nice strap for crop DSLR's. I've had mine for a couple years and it's very comfy. It breathes well and distributes the weight nicely.

I posted this on another thread, but I just turned a handbag into a camera bag. You have to use thick padding, but it works well for me. I haven't decided if I'm going to use this for WDW or not.

I use the carry speed camera strap and love it.

I have used various Eagle Creek bags as camera bags by adding foam inserts. The EC items are usually high quality and well designed.

I use a regular backpack. But my camera is rarely in it. It's always around my neck except when it rains or I'm on one of the very few rides that don't allow it. I keep my lenses in individual pouches inside the bag. I just haven't found the perfect bag yet tha has room for my camera stuff along with the extras I carry. Of course, we usually travel in December and need space for sweatshirts and sometimes gloves and hats.

For the past 2 field trips I've been on (kid school related) I've put mine in my Baggallini when not on my back. So far so good. Infact we went to the Planetarium today and I had it in there most of the time. I also carry my daughters Glucose meter, snacks, her sweatshirt and the rest of the junk that a mom of a diabetic 7 year old needs to carry! :P

Which Baggallini do you use?

Forgot to mention that my camera is the Canon t2i. I've had it in there with the regular stock lens and my telephoto one.
