Hi everyone!

I was reading one of the DIS blog posts today about the "Discover the Magic" tour and it looks like a lot of fun. I was wondering if anyone else has gone on that tour and, if you did the tour, what did you think of it. My kids are ages 7 and 9, so I think that they would get a kick out of it. Thanks!

We did it two years ago and LOVED it! Unforunately it was a day it rained, so they had to modify it a bit, but it was still a lot of fun and we got to do a ton of stuff. We were on the tour with 2 other groups - one had kids who sort of held back and one had kids who tried to take everything over. Mine where some where in the middle - eager, but not pushy. The guides (2 of them), were very concious of this and made sure every kid got a chance to lead the group/activity. They were even sweet enough to give my then 2 yr old the goodies (medal & souvineer hot chocolate/mug) even though she wasn't old enough to have needed to pay for the tour. When I reminded them she didn't get one, they said there was no way they were leaving her out.

My kids, now ages 11, 9, 6 & 4 have been asking to do this one again! We did it in Nov and got the souvineer mug, but I think in the summer it's some sort of frozen treat.

Awesome! It sounds like you had a great time! I'm going to add this to our trip for sure!

We did the tour last year and my kids loved it! (2 and 5) I highly recommend it.

My daughter and I did it two years ago when she was five, and she liked it so much that we did it again a couple of months ago on a return trip when she was seven. The tour guides do an exceptional job at keeping it fun for the kids and making sure everybody gets to shine. On our second time, my daughter was literally the only kid on the tour-- besides us, the only people on the tour were a couple of young women who were taking the tour just because it was the one tour they hadn't taken yet. It essentially turned into a private tour for my daughter, since she was the only kid. :)

Do you think my 11 year old is too old for this?

It really depends on his/her personality. Is s/he at that "I'm too cool" stage yet? I think everybody would have fun on this tour, but being able to let loose and have fun definitely makes it better (they pretend to be pirates, etc).

We did it last year for DD's 5th birthday, and she had so much fun we are doing it again for her birthday this year. :) It was a lot of fun, and a nice way to get on a few rides without lines. We also ended up getting a FP, which we used for PPF later on that day.

In the summer, the treat is an apple juice slushy.

We did it with DD5 last month and we all loved it. I think the sweet spot age wise is probably 4-8 but it's possible that older kids would be OK with it. Our group was mainly families with kids in the 4-8 range but there was one family with a pre-teen - he didn't complain but wasn't as interactive as the younger kids were with the guides. We ended right on time at 12:30 and did all the things on the itinerary so we did not get a FP afterwards to use which was fine with us as we had to hit the road for our drive back to NorCal.

<Spoiler Alert>
The best part for us is that one one of our previous trips to DL when DD was 3 or 4 we went on the island and DD was obsessed with finding out what was inside one of the treasure chests so this past Christmas I bought her a jeweled key so she could try it out on our next visit - she forgot the key but one of the activities was opening up a chest in that very location w key/s the guides had - so it was extra exciting for her.
</Spoiler Alert>

We probably won't do it a 2nd time since we've experienced it once but I am hoping we make it to WDW some time before DD turns 8 so we can try to do the equivalent tours there before she starts to outgrow things (and us!).

My 15yr old niece was bummed she didn't get to do it with us but she loves to hang with my little ones so it depends. But hey we loved it so I think your 11yr old will like it. Besides who doesn't like to walk on a few rides with no wait. Not sure if they still offer it but we got a AAA discount on our tickets last year.

We did this tour on DDs birthday when she turned 6 and DS was 3 (almost 4). The group we had was mainly kids in the same age group. I like that the kids had an opportunity to play with other kids. You can read about it in my July 2013 trip report in my signature (I can't remember which page it's on, but it's on the Sunday, which is probably day 4 of that trip, so you'll have to scroll through a bit. DD is in a Belle dress and DS is dressed like a pirate.)
I would recommend doing this tour on the day of your trip that is likely to be the busiest.
