Big crowds during free dining? WDW must be expecting a big turnout to be increasing prices starting August 6th.

Everyone with free dining already booked a package with tickets, so the increase would not affect that. :confused3

I think they are paying for the free dining. IMHO.

My reasoning is that they did the free dining promotion to draw crowds during a slow season. Since they are now increasing ticket prices right before the "slow" season, I'm assuming they are no longer concerned with drawing crowds.

I think the ticket price increase is just timed to come hand in hand with package rates for 2007. Last year when they release 2006 package pricing, it included 2005 ticket prices untill the end of the year. so anyone who booked a package before 1/2 got the "old" ticket price. This way they get everyone who does a 2007 package with "new" ticket prices. They've only let people book the basic package which is just room and minigolf tickets. They don't have tickets added in so this way everyone going in 2007 on a package pays the increase.

That's what I was thinking. Someone on the DVC boards posted the dining plan rates for 2007.

I assumed all this is done so that nothing needs to be changed once package rates are released.

That sure makes sense to me to synchronize price increases with when the next year's packages become available. Price increases used to be in October, and I wonder if, back then, the packages were released in October.

I believe gcoxua was referring to the fact that folks getting the Dining Plan "free" are paying a higher rate for their hotel room than they necessarily needed to -- there are hotel discounts available that are at a rate lower than that which the "free" Dining Plan was offered. So in a nutshell, these folks are "paying" for the "free" Dining Plan through a higher hotel room rate. Also, they're paying through the shared risk they have agreed to take on regarding vacationing in Florida during the heart of hurricane season.

I was just trying to make a joke. What I meant was everyone wants to take advantage of the free dining so Disney is now offsetting the cost of the free dining with higher prices.

I do know however with the cost of living increases and inflation that price increases are coming across the board, not just WDW.

I will say I am glad that I have my tickets for December paid for.

That is what I was wondering- when I read it I saw 2 possible meanings- and I was just curious.

I think bicker and gcoxua hit the nail on the head!
