I am talking little squirt - like 8-9 wk old? How did it go? We have 4 kids, and I have taken little babies many places, but never contemplated WDW - it looks like that may be an issue next fall if all goes well (insert smiley with fingers crossed)

I am a nursing mother, so the feeding thing is simple - no hassle there. And babies at that age are so simple. I am just talking the wear and tear of the long days - we go at Disney commando and hard because our time is always limited. I would have to rethink this philosophy if hauling an infant. Definitely would have to pick my battles as far as what is worth the rush.

anyway... just wondering the experience of others

We did two infant trips - one with DD in 2002 then one with DS in 2005. I don't remember exactly but I'm thinking they were at least 15+ weeks for their first trips.

I just threw them in a Snuggli and literally wore them all day...even on most rides. Whatever age they were, they had enough neck control that when awake I would face them outward, when they slept I turned them inward. I remember both of them looking around intently when awake. The nursing stations were great for mom and baby to sit down and feed.

My only caution is to be aware of how loud WDW can get...Universe of Energy's "Big Bang", for example...I covered their ears for those select moments just in case it was too much for little eardrums...

I haven't done WDW with an infant, but I did do DLR for 5 days with a 10 week old and a 3 year old. We started when the park opened and stayed til close. Biggest thing to remember is babies that age mainly sleep so as llong as you can put them in a stroller and push and have a baby front carrier you should be good to go. I found having a nursing wrap was nice and not just for nursing. I could keep him covered from the sun while standing in line. I did bring little ear plugs as disney can be quite loud. They also have a pass that allows you and your spouse to switch ride on the big rides and you get to take some one with you, so if you have one older child they get to ride back to back, once with mom and once with dad. It makes it quite nice. DLR has a nursery on main street which is nice, not sure about WDW. Just remember as long as baby has you, they will be fine. OH and don't forget the binki for the plane, take off and landing can be rough without it! If you need to know anything else about infant travel, let me know, I've done TONS of it!

did WDW with an infant in January 2005. He was right around 8 weeks.
He pretty much was always asleep, I just brought my carseat into the park with me and put it in the stroller. We he was awake, someone would hold him, then he slept in the carrier.

Sometimes I almost wish they were still that age. It was so easy! But we always take our time, never doing Disney commando. We always go at it with the view of, if we don't see it this time, hopefully next time we will.

Hope that helps you out.

My only "warning" is to be aware of how hot the baby is and if the sun is in his/her face, etc. I'm always suprised at the number of parents in the park who are waiting in line, etc and the baby is fussy because the sun is directly in their eyes. The parents don't even notice usually.

Someone just asked same question Thurs, I wrote then, too. My only suggestion, having taken a almost 3 monther last spring, is bring an umbrella for shade. I used to b/c the shade on stroller was not always enough and at that age they can't wear sunscreen and I also used it to shade her head while she was in the front carrior. I know I was dreading the trip, never had done it with a tiny one before, but it was no problem.
have a fun trip!

Although we took our DS when he was a few months older, my biggest advice would be to avoid the summer months. It is just too stinkin' hot! But having other kids, I know you will go when you can with school, etc.

Like others have said, sun shades, a good stroller for sleeping and I would certainly get a clip fan for the stroller if you go during summer/hotter months. The baby centers, although not neccessary, are a nice quiet break if you want to BF in a cool, quiet place. Also, another really loud attraction is the Great Movie Ride...it seems like it's a good break from the heat, but it is LOUD. And as long as you are up to commando days if the LO is not sleeping through the night yet, I say go for it.

thanks for the input. I looked back a couple pages and found another infant post (oops!)

there is one thing I worry about. With my last child I had mastitis right at around 7-8 weeks. We were also in travel mode - I had kids showing livestock at the state fair, and we were going out of town for 5 nights. This all peaked the day we were leaving - it wasn't so good! There was a lot of physician phone-calling and extra running around, but I was able to get it under control. I just don't want this type of thing to happen again, but you just don't always know what will happen.

One other question... are the baby stations just for mother and baby or do they have a family area where dad can be with baby? My husband loves to cuddle after baby is fed and satisfied. He would consider this a break in the Disney day, but I wondered if it was a nursing mother area only.

The whole family is welcome in the baby care centers....there is a TV/play room with Disney movies playing and high chairs where the kids and dad can hang out. But the BF rooms are reserved for the Mommas only!
