After several years of increasing anxiety attacks...and avoidance of going to the doctor for it ( - yeah I know) .....extenuating circumstances landed me in a doctors office today for something else.

Well, I had a full blown anxiety attack (perhaps the worst I've had in a while) about 1/2 hr before the appt. So, I was still coming off it at the appt.

We ended up talking about all this.....and I left with a prescription for Lexapro.

Do any of you take this? What kind of results have you had?

I think this was the worst attack yet....because I avoid lots of situation to avoid attacks.....and there was no avoiding this appt.

I want this to work so bad. I don't like how my life has become.

Anyone?

Sorry, I'm just looking for reassurance this will help without too many side effects. :(

No words of wisdom here. I still suffer so I can't help you...in fact, I'll probably be asking you for help...

Good luck with this medicine. I hope it really helps and has few side effects for you.

but I have taken Celexa. Lexapro is an improved form of Celexa. I had very few side effects with the Celexa and they were gone after four to six weeks (mostly sleepiness). The Lexapro has an even better side effect profile. I used it for depression/anxiety for about six months and it worked really well. My doctor slowly weaned me off of it about three months ago and I've done really well since then.

Good luck!

My best friend is taking lexapro and it has changed her life in a positive way. It has been wonderful for her and her children. She has a normal life now. Since, her husband died her therapist has incresed her dosage a lot and the only side effects have come out now and that is just being a little spacey.

I think with most drugs like lexapro, zoloft, celexa, prozac , sarafem and etc you will get a little spacey.

I was on zoloft and hated it. I gained 25 pounds and it made me very compulsive, I switched to sarafem and then once a week prozac and it has changed my life as well. I am normal again.

Hugs to you and everything will be fine.

My husband has been taking it for just about a year now. He isn't on it for panic attacks though. I'm sending you a PM.

Hi Splsh:

Yes, I have been taking it for about 6 weeks now and it has been an extremely positive experience so far. I was very ambivalent about taking any drugs on a regular basis, but I finally went to the doctor and this is what he prescribed. I have had virtually NO side effects so far and no "spacey" feeling whatsoever. PM me and I'll be more than happy to share more with you. I think you should try it. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH EVERYONE!

I feel so much better knowing this has worked for others....without any or much side effects....without having to take it forever.

I'm looking forward to my NEW life!!!! :)

I started taking Lexapro in February - about a month after my son left for Iraq. I was an absolute ANXIETY mess!!!! I'm happy to say that this helped me get through the early days of the war and the weeks that followed. I had no side effects at all, and now that he's home - I hope I don't need it anymore.;)

Just wondering how you are feeling today. Any side effects? Can you tell a difference yet?

Well, I couldn't sleep at all last night. I was wide awake for hours just thinking about everything that got me to this point I guess.

I took the first pill this morning. Actually, it was only 1/2 pill. For the first week, she wants me to take 1/2 daily.

I didn't have any side effects that I noticed. I'm really tired. Fatigue is a side effect...but I'm sure it's because I didn't sleep...and I'm on day 6 of bad allergies / sinus funk thing going on which wiped me out most of weekend.

I didn't feel any anxiety really today...but then again I didn't have any exposure to anything that would set me off. Just work. I'm sure it will take a while to really know how it changes me.

Thanks for asking. :)

Coming in late. My sister takes it and notices a increase of being sleepy for about 6 weeks. Sadly she ran out and she's starting the cycle all over again :/

I started on Lexapro in December, right before Christmas... or was it November? Hmm...

I was having panic attacks because I knew that I'd have to go to my MILs house for the holidays. It is just the most horrible experience to be around this woman and her children. It's a wonder my DH made it to adulthood while still being normal. I was having chest pains and my fingertips were numb. I wanted to crawl out of my skin.

I am happy to say that I experienced no side affects and it got me through the holidays and through two IL weddings in the past several weeks. Luckily, I can handle her childishness without it affecting me in a bad way.

My options, as I saw them were kill her, or take medication... she's definitely NOT worth prison.
