We stayed in the tower last fall and were definitely spoiled by the nightly view of Wishes right outside our window! We are looking at maybe staying in a wing room this fall, with the free dining deal.

Are the rooms in bad need of refurb? Will it be a big letdown from the Tower room? Are there any pics of the wing rooms online? Will we be able to go up to the viewing deck to see fireworks, or is that only available for concierge guests? Thanks in advance!

I'm wondering the same thing. I'll be checking in about 72 hrs. --- If a tower room is available i'm gunna upgrade then.

I was upgraded free to a tower room last time i stayed at the CR, and am worried about the same thing you are.

They have begun to work on upgrading the wing rooms, but am not sure how far they've come.

That's all the info I can give ya, maybe someone else can give somemore.

Would you mind emailing me when you get back, and let me know how the wing rooms were. Or if you were upgraded. We are going in October, and I'm a little nervous too! :confused3
Thanks!

We just got back from a 4 night stay at CR in garden view wing room. We were not upgraded nor did we ask. I only paid $166 (pin code) a night so I really didn't think it was possible to upgrade. I have never stayed in Tower so can't compare. However during same visit, we had a split stay so we also had 4 nights AKL savannah and 1 night SOG. All I can say is that the CR wing rooms are nice. Yes you can tell the resort is older but it was clean and not shabby, just worn. But it in no way compares to our stay at AKL and SOG. I would stay at AKL or SOG before CR again. Our wing room did have a great view of the fireworks, but the other resorts were so much nicer for the same or less amount of money. This was our first trip to CR so I can't compare to previous visits just the other resorts during our trip. I hope you both have a great trip and good luck with upgrades.

Thanks for the info. Im sure it will be fine. We are only there 3 days, before we head over to BCV and The Poly. I dont expect to be upgraded for free, just wondering if we could possibly pay for it when we get there. Thanks Again! :flower:

We stayed in the North wing back in Feb 2005 and in the Tower in Dec 2002. The rooms were exactly the same inside.

In the tower, we had the MK view which was GREAT!

In the North wing, we had a bottom floor facing the lagoon -- SO peaceful! It was quite a short walk to the MK from that end of the CR. Also, we could walk out to the entrance of the wing and watch (and hear) Wishes.

I found the wing room to be as clean as the tower room, however, the hallways were quite filthy when you get to looking. The carpets need quite a cleaning (or replacing would be better) and it could use some paint. The hallways definitely show their wear.

HTH

First off, this was our first stay EVER at WDW, so I don't know how much of that "first time" experience swayed our thoughts on CR.

We stayed in the north wing ground floor this past Memorial Day and loved loved LOVED it! We booked a standard but were actually upgraded to a water view. We had a wonderful view overlooking Bay Lake(pic below is from our patio)...so peaceful...wasn't that far of a walk to the tower or the pool...view of EWP. Real close to the playground. The walk to MK was WONDERFUL! So close that 4 year-old DD never needed a stroller and never wanted to be carried (even when offered) even at 11:30 at night! We were so proud of her! But I digress...sorry. :goodvibes

The room was huge...ample space (we unpack everything), LOVED the 2 separate sink areas and the abundance of counter space in the bathroom. Room was clean, carpet in hallways brand new, walls had been freshly wallpapered and they were installing new railings while we were there (never any noise.) Mousekeeping was excellent and they honored our request to have the room serviced before noon everyday as we always come back for a nap.

Bottom line...we loved it and I'm having a hard time deciding NOT to stay there on our next trip...did I mention how CONVENIENT it is to walk to MK????? And truthfully, I think I would prefer the wing to the tower. It was just so quiet...we like that after a busy day in a crowded park.

Enjoy your stay! :earsgirl:

In May, we stayed in one of the winged buildings furthest away from MK.

We were disappointed. We were checking into BCV on Sunday May 8th, but also had breakfast with Pooh for that Sunday morning. We were going to stay at a Value resort, but decided to splurge and get Contemporary for 1 night so we could walk to MK.

The room just seemed old and cheap. Nothing in particular, and everything worked, but it just reminded me of an old Holiday Inn.

My biggest complaint is that I specifically told them we were staying there for that 1 night to be able to walk to MK for breakfast and that we were going to BCV on Sunday. They gave us a room that was furthest from.

AND we paid $300 for the night (with our DVC discount, I might add!)

For the money, I would have rather stayed at Grand Floridian or Polynesian. We still could have grabbed the monorail from there.

You probably were put in a South Garden Wing Room. Which are undergoing rehabs as we speak. They started those on May 30th and will be closed until Oct.

I haven't heard of any problems with the North Side recently, so I'll be anxious to see what I get on Monday.

If you don't mind me asking, do you remember the room number?
and what did you request when you made the ressie? I need a wing room for DB and they would love to be able to see Wishes. Thanks!

We stayed in the North Wing in March 2005 and found the room to be very nice. To get a room with a view of the fireworks from the wings, ask for a standard view. That's actually cheaper than the garden view because it faces the parking lot. Not all standard view rooms have views of the castle, so make sure you mention you would prefer a castle view when you check in. I would also request a ground floor room as they have patios.

We stayed in a North Wing garden view room in April, but must have been upgraded to a water view as well. Everything was in wonderful condition, and the short walk to the MK can't be beat! Like the other poster, I'm having a hard time with the idea of staying anywhere else! (The MK is my favorite park, and I loved being right next door!) :flower:

We stayed there this June for 4 days and I was pleasantly suprised. We were given room 7183, ground floor, facing the parking lot, North Garden Wing.

I thought the room was very clean, no broken down parts, spacious, bright colors and very well maintained. The location was great, it was only yards to the Food and Fun Center and not very far at all to the lobby and pool.

It was very nice to be able to just walk to MK and back. The walk was pleasant enough and took about 5-10 minutes. I really like the table that was in the room in front of the daybed. It was the perfect height to use as a dining table. We could just cart trays from the F&F Center and pull up the ottoman and chair and be comfortable eating in the room.

Here are some pictures of our room:

So it seems that the South Garden Wing Rooms are the ones getting the most complaints. Haven't heard any complaints regarding the North.

Thanks for posting pics of the NGW.

How did you get a DVC discount at a non-DVC resort? I never heard of such a thing. Did you use points instead of cash?? DVC only gets discounts at DVC resorts when MS has availability.

Thanks for the info and the pictures. I'll be calling in our request for Ground Floor North Wing Castle View Room 7183 or something close this morning. pirate:

IMO, yes. But if you know what you're in for and you don't expect to be "wowed" by your view/room, the wings can be great!
