anyone stay at DVC and go on VIP tour to US/IoA?

No one on the US/IoA board answered my question about this, so I thought I'd try here.

I'm hoping to stay in OKW spring 2005. We have never been to US/IoA and I think 3 guys in our family would like to try it and I don't want to pay for a hotel on-site there during our short spring break, so I thought I'd buy 3 VIP (not exclusive) tour tickets (2 parks, one day). Three others in our party will probably enjoy going to MK during that day (the three non-adventurers--chickens)

Someone I know just got back and enjoyed doing this. I was wondering if any of you here have done this and is it worth it? Or should I wait until a longer summer trip and stay at HRH during the weekend to save my DVC points for weekdays (we never stay Friday or Saturday nights using DVC points).

Not that I have done this but the only downfall I see is that you will not have access to "Front of the Line" Access which is included when you stay at their Hotels. If it's not a busy time, why not.

buy an additional Addon for $25 dollars/head that alllows one fastpass on every ride no waiting in between.
You can cover Ioa IN less than 6hrs all rides.

My DD, 19, and I went to IOA/US on Friday, March 19th but we stayed at Universal's Royal Pacific. The wierd thing was we didn't need FOTL until about 4:30 that afternoon when we went to US. Being true Disney addicts, we always get to the parks early. We were at IOA by 8:15 a.m. and they let us in about 8;45 a.m. so we were in front of the crowds all morning at IOA. In fact, until about 11 am, they didn't even have their Universal Express (FOTL) lines open.

Anyway, my DD and I, who are thrill ride junkies, weren't that thrilled with any ride at IOA/US except Spiderman. We have an extra day on our two-day passes which, thankfully, never expires, because it will be many years before we go back to either IOA/US and when we do, we'll definitely stay at a Disney resort.

As a fellow DVC'er, I can't imagine paying to stay in a hotel, however for business reasons I did stay in the Royal Pacific at Universal last August. The hotel is beautiful.
The front of the line privilege is a MUST for dealing with the crowds.
And get those three chickens to go with you!!! There are plenty of non-thrill Disney-style rides (all superb) all Universal Studios.
Since the best ride in the world is Spiderman at IOA, you really need to convince your friends to come.
And if you don't want to spring for the bucks to stay in the hotel, then do buy those "upgrades" that give you a Universal express pass for every ride in the park. The express passes are gone from most machines by 1 or 2 pm (at least they were last August).

and the other two are my DD12 and DS16 (actually, he's not chicken, he just gets headaches easily like on MS). The other three are my DH, and DS's 10 and 14 who love thrill rides.

The VIP tour does take you to the front of the line and you are personally escorted by a guide throughout the day. So would you really need the additional express pass? I really don't want to pay for two adjoining rooms when we have DVC. I thought this would be a way that they could see it quickly and we could go back at a later trip if they really felt they wanted to.

I'm just the kind of person who loves being at Disney and don't feel a need to go elsewhere. I've been to Busch Gardens, Kings Dominion, Hershey Park, 6 Flags and US in CA.
