My mom and I shared the fried chicken dinner and a piece of snickers cheesecake - the fried chicken was brought out on two plates each with a side of mashed potatoes and green beans and the cheesecake was brought out on one plate with two forks - our server never made a point of it or blinked twice - he just took our order (and made sure that we were ordering separate drinks) and off he went.
We always share at 50's Prime Time (at most restaurants in WDW for that matter - their portions are huge). We've never had an issue with it at WDW or any restaurant. Most of the time, they are quite accommodating and split the meal for you OR they just bring an extra plate.
Just make sure to tip for the # of people you have. I think the only time it really is an issue with servers is when you tip based on the bill. When folks split, they get half the tip then. I actually always make a point of tipping extra if we split because I look at it as how much $ I saved by splitting
We have found that in both WDW and Disneyland, the servers have been very cooperative about sharing a meal.
I believe that I have read on some of the menues that there is a plate charge for sharing, but I don't think I've actually ever been charged the extra plate fee. If I were I would happily pay it.
For us it has been both a money saver, and a waistline helper. Portions are quite large at many of the resturants.
We will at times split an adult meal for our childeren too if there is something we know they will like better than the children's choices.
I have split the meatloaf with DD twice. She prefers it to the kids meals and there is plenty. We just asked for an extra plate. Our server asked if we wanted it split in the kitchen I said I preferred to do it.
The server never made fun of us for this - she did note DD was better bean eater than I was
