I need a little help with that area. Our trip is in Oct and I was going to make costumes for us but I'm not very good at sewing yet.

Anyone made a Sleeping Beauty Costume before? How hard is it?

I've made costumes for the past couple of years...piglet was last year--and I am totally blanking on the year before.

I try to get the "simplicity" patterns.

For a non-sewer....I find them easy....meaning..less likely for me to screw them up. Sometimes my stitching is off--but otherwise, I do okay.

With these patterns....there is less detail...and larger pieces.....sometimes I find the most difficult part is cutting the darn things out.

I've used the simpicity patterns too. I have one that was for princesses -- Snow White, Cinderella, and Ariel. I've made the first two. I also had the Winnie-the-pooh patterns like the previous poster. I made the Winnie-the-Pooh and Piglet too. Piglet was my favourite since it was for my then 9-month-old daughter :goodvibes It took a lot of work though, to match up all the stripes. Anyways, the princess costumes were WAY easier than the other ones. Basically, you have to sew a front to back top, and then attach a skirt. SIMPLE. The trickier parts are the little extras -- poof sleeves and waist layers on Cinderella, Sleeve cut-outs and neck decoration on Snow White. Basically, if it was too much, I was going to leave it out, but it never came to that.

I haven't seen the pattern for Sleeping Beauty. I can't see it being any more work though -- only longer sleeves. Good luck :flower:

By the way, I thought I was the only crazy sewer  -- I finished Snow White last month for this upcoming Halloween!

I use the simplicity patterns also. Last year the boys were buzz lightyear and woody. This year.................Darth Vader and Yoda.

I made a Sleeping Beauty costume a few years ago-I'm a pretty good seamstress, so I can't give you an idea of how hard it was. If it matters to your DD, all of the Auroras I've seen at WDW are in pink dresses (as opposed to blue.)

Hmmmmm...you all are giving me an idea!!! Last year, dd3 was Dorothy from Wizard of OZ. I made her costume with a denim jumper and created (aka hand sewed) a gingham apron w/chest pocket and tacked it on the jumper. I then was able to actually buy a small basket w/toto in it at the party shop!!! Top it off w/white tights and those sparkly red walmart shoes, braids and VOILA...Dorothy!!!

Long story short...wonder how I could some up w/snow white!?!?! Yellow dress, blue apron, red felt...a bluebird for the shoulder...hmmmmmm...it could be FUN!!!

The wheels are turning!!!!!

:wave2: - The sewing really isn't that hard just try to think of it in steps rather than the whole picture. Everything is explained well in the patterns with diagrams. So, if you follow this simple rule...one step at a time... you should be fine and if you need any help please feel free to PM me!
(I have been sewing for 30 years and am the official costume maker for my neighborhood ;) )

I am not a seamstress ... I only play one on TV. No really, I only sew costumes. But every Halloween I sew the girls a costume (and me too). Right now I am working on a costume that I hope to complete in time for the Renaissance Faire and I will probably wear it for Halloween too.

So, I usually use Simplicity or Butterick patterns. Watch the JoAnn Fabrics ads. These will go on sale for 99cent soon before halloween. Here are a couple costumes I made. They are not professional quality! But they were great for Halloween.

DD as Belle (the shirt is one that DD had already in her closet). This is really a Dorothy (Wizard of Oz) pattern that I fixed up to be Belle.

Here is one of me in a Snow White Costume. I had to manipulate the pattern to fit me, but I think it worked out ok.

Here is one of DD in her Pirates of the Caribbean costume. The hat is purchased.

Disneysnel, I may take you up on that offer when I get stuck!

My mother was the seamstress of the family. I never paid attention. Now I don't have anybody to ask...and of course I never bothered to take home ec.

Keep your fingers crossed and wish me luck!

I'll be honest. I am an okay seamstress - I don't do anything fancy. One year I made a Cruella cape when DD ws a Dalmation.

I was going to make DD an Aurora costume last year. I bought the pattern (1.99 on sale at Hancock's) and started pricing the material. Even at buying fabric Walmart everything (materials)would have been over $20. Costco had them for $20 something (maybe 29.99?). My time with a baby in the house was worth $10. I bought the costume.

This year we are doing Dorothy. 1.99 pattern. Material and lace were just over $10 at Walmart. DD already had the red glitter shoes from Target from dress up birthday gift and we have a plush animal that is actually a Scottie dog, but close enough to Toto. So far I have it cut out. I need to get going on it since I want it done before I go back to school on 8/17. DD also needs it since she will be a MNSSHP on 9/30!

Which Dorothy pattern are you using? I don't remember lace being on it?? Anyway, the Dorothy costume isn't too hard to do, just time consuming.

I am going to make my dd an Alice dress for our December trip. I feel kinda bad because my ds4 won't be wearing any type of costume. I think it's one thing for the girls to wear a "princess" dress to WDW any time of the year (yeah, I know Alice isn't a princess), but I don't remember seeing little boys wearing Disney costumes other than for Halloween.
