The per day price goes through the roof after a one week rental. If I am giving a car rental place more business, why do I suffer for it???

Per day rental goes up by 20% because I am renting for 9 days.

I have noticed this too, at least from National and I think from other rentals. If you rent for an eighth day, you are charged the standard daily rate for day 8 rather than multiplying the weekly rate by 8/7. As a result the eighth day is the most expensive.

You may want to check the discount codes available at www.mousesavers.com. I don't know if these will help save you any $$ on the extra days, but they may help reduce the weekly rate. I ended up with a great deal from Avis using the codes on the site.

The last time we returned the car after a week and picked up another one for the extra couple of days. As it turned out they let us keep the same car, and we were annoyed to have to go out to the airport because the check-in guy did not understand what was going on. He made us come out there and when we did the manager said there had been no reason to do so.

We always seem to rent for odd numbers of days (10 or 12 or more) and YES they really sock it to you on those extra days. I always start early and look for the best possible price.

Yep! Hate the prices now a days!!!!!:( :( :( :(

I'm not sure if they have something like this down in Orlando, but I know some cities have an "Entertainment" book. It costs about $20.00 and has some great coupons in it. I used one a couple years ago for a rental car and managed to get a double class upgrade (I ended up getting a pontiac grand am for the price of a sunfire - which at the time was on special for $19.99/day). They also usually have some great discounts for buy 3 days get 1 free, or 20% off a "weekly rental". It may be worth it for you to see if it's available.

I'm not too familiar with the "discount codes", so I'm not sure how a book like this compares to the codes you can use.

Funny, you should bring this up, Nedland. This is the first question my DH always asks, when I book our Disney trips. He hates that extra day charge.

He loves, however, when I can arrange flights for our 7 nights, but at times that only require a weekly rental without the extra day.

For instance, if your return time on the car is before the time you picked it up.

Or, as in the case of my most recently booked trip, we leave home on a Saturday night, but don't arrive at MCO until midnight. Therefore, my rental starts on Sunday, and we will be returning it late on a Saturday.
