I've seen it on tv a few times in the past, but I can't remember the name of it for the life of me..

It was about a little girl (long dark braids and glasses) who lived with her grandmother and father.. The father would never allow a Christmas tree in the house.. There was some kind of contest in school and I don't remember if it was the little girl or a classmate who won the tree and dragged it back to her house.. When her father saw the tree he got very angry and I think (?) he got rid of it..

In the end, all turned out well - but I can't remember the name of the movie for love or money..:confused3

Anyone know the movie I'm thinking of? :santa:

I remember seeing that movie when I was little! Is that the one where at the end, her father lets her put a star on the tree? I think she lost her mother and her father stopped celebrating? If we are thinking of the same movie, I loved it!

It's The House Without a Christmas Tree. I read it to my classes every year and just started it today. I really need to go out and buy a copy of the movie to show the kids after we finish reading it.

That's it! Wasn't Jason Robards in it?

That's it!! Thank you so much.. Do you think a place like Amazon would have it in stock? :santa:

ETA: Just checked Amazon - they have it on DVD for $8.99.. :) Also had some other nice tv Christmas movies listed as well..

I remember that movie! I'd wish they show it on TV

I also remember other movies with the same characters. They were about Thanksgiving, and Valentine's Day.

I know it's on every year - I just don't know when..:confused3 I wouldn't be surprised if the Hallmark channel might show it before Christmas.. Wonder if Hallmark has a web site where you can search for future shows?

Yep! It's in stock :thumbsup2

I had forgotten about this movie and after I read your post, I remembered how much I loved it too.

You must have been posting at the same time I was editing my post.. LOL.. Did you see the other television Christmas movies they had as well? :santa:

I just watched this a couple of weeks ago. I hadn't seen it since I was little and I really enjoyed it. I rented it from Blockbuster Online.

While we're asking about Christmas/holiday related things here, I hope I can ask a related question:

There's a book I read as a kid ... from what I remember, it's probably for 10-12 year olds.

I don't remember when it was written or by whom, but I read it in the mid 1990s. These girls lived in a girls' boarding home, maybe Victorian England or turn of the century US. It was Christmas, and one of the little girls received a lavish new doll. She had a beloved old doll too. The dolls came alive at night, and the old doll felt neglected because of the novelty of the new doll and how the little girl paid less attention to her now. I remember one of the other girls describing a chocolate cake and icing, if that rings a bell for anyone (I know I'd be paying attention! :lmao:). Could anyone help me with this book, please? TIA

I only have basic cable and Hallmark is not included. :guilty: I haven't seen this movie since I was a child.
