I've been looking for a new bed for my son's room he has one of the Little Tykes Twin Race Car beds that takes up as much room as a full bed. He wants a bunk bed (he is 9 btw). The kid really needs a bed with stoarage he is into webkinz and disney plush, ty plush etc. So stuffed animals have taken over, I am looking for something with lots of storage and came across the Berg Play, Study and Storage system. We actually saw one in person last weekend he of course loved it. My about died at the price.

So my question is anyone have any experience with them as your kid got older did they feel like it was to kiddish for them? My son in on the autism specturm and this has a hide and play area which would be a great quite place for him. Also since he is on the spectrum he is a litte more immature then your typically 9 year old.

Right now I'm looking to come across a used one since the new ones are more than I really want to spend. Just concerned he may eventually think it is too kiddish for him, or as he gets older may not want to sleep in a loft type of bed.

As much as I think a 9 year old would love it, I've been looking into a loft-like bed situation dor ds12, with a desk underneath (small room, he does his homework on his bed), and yes, it would be too babyish for him (he's almost 5'4", and the thought of him climbing those stairs...).

I love the idea of Berg beds! I was looking for a 'big girl' bed for my DD and came across those, it would be perfect for my DS's room - a tiny room with no closet. Of course I wasn't buying for him :rotfl2:!

I know Direct Buy sells Berg so if you or anyone you know is a Direct Buy member you can get it at an amazing discount!

These are great-I'd never seen them before. Now my husband wants to make one :).

Any idea of how prices compare there?

My husband also mentioned possibly trying to make one, though I wonder how much we would save in the materials by the time he was done.:)

We saw them for the first time last weekend and now I really don't want to buy him anything else. I also like the fact that they are made in the USA. They have several color choice options as well as several differnt styles to choose from. I just wish they were not so darn $$$. My first response was when I heard the price WOW that is the price of a trip to Disney.:)

We got a loft bed for my sister from IKEA when she was in 8th grade I believe (tiny room with no room for a desk, so we had a desk put in underneath). It was actually too tall for our room so my dad shaved a couple inches off the legs (wooden bed). It's really high, not much room above the bed, but she loves it. She just moved into her own place and the bed went with her :confused3 . We don't get it, but she loves the room it gives her. Oh, and she's 20 now and 5 foot 11...

We've been looking for a loft bed for ds for a bit now and have looked into the Berg line. I love them but I wish they came in real wood rather than the pressboard.

The look is way too modern for us. I'm still looking though. Lea has some nice options and there are a few others out there w/ traditional wood vs the more modern sleek look.

Through Direct Buy it was a couple grand off from my local Baby & Kids room store. It depends on which model you're looking at.

This brought a website to mind that I learned about on the DIS... http://ana-white.com/plancatalog. There are several ideas that could work here. Since reading this woman's site I've been dying to make a hall linen cabinet (desperately need it and don't want to pay $600 for a sturdy one).

so how much do one of these run?

The model were were looking at was the play, sleep and storage unit with the stairs and desk. So keeping within this one unit was a desk, loft bed, stairs with built in drawers and a chest in drawer in one end and a play area that runs underneth the bed that can serve as storage as well. So while it appears as a single unit it is really about 3-4 pieces of furniture at our local store it was $2,900 and the cheapest I have found online was $2599.

It is still very pricey, but I keep reminding myself what it really is. The problem is we just really need the bed and some extra storage space. They have a captains bed which also has a lot of storage space and they run in the $1300-$1900 range. He of course likes the loft bed.

I just keep looking at it and thinking though it costs as much as our disney vacation.

Do you live close enough to an Ikea to visit in person? They have a bunch of different loft bed displays, for kids and teens, that could give you a good idea of what might work in you son's room. I know I saw one display that had a loft bed with curtains around the bottom (they sell the hardware and curtains too) and it was set up as a kid play area, with storage bins and a small table. As your son gets older, the kid stuff could be removed and a desk or dresser put there.

The Berg stuff seems very expensive IMO and I think that a kid would outgrow the stair setup by the teen years.

i had purchased the loft bed. it was really good bed. the legacy classic kids bed is the bed in which two beds are stacked over one another. in this bed the ladders as well as railing were there in the bed. the children below six years of age should not sleep on the top of the top of the bed.

I actually looked at this brand because is is still made in the USA . Not much is made here any more. I want to support our country as well as not have any issues with unwanted additives that are in so many made in China Items
