I usually order my contacts through my doctor's office, but I thought maybe this time I'd try to order them online & save money.

Anyone have any experience with ordering them online? I went to 1-800 Contacts (which was cheaper than the eye dr.) and LensDiscounters.com (which was like 1/2 the price of my eye dr.)!!

Any help is much appreciated!

I order from 1-800-contacts. No problems. You do need to have your prescription though and some docs don't want to give it to you.

Thanks! I know, that's why I think I've never tried before. But this time he gave me a trial pair & they have the prescription on the packaging.

You need more than just the power. Make sure the package has the BC too. I think that's the tricky part.

They have quick delivery too.

I used to get Acuvue lenses from 1-800-contacts, but found that Sam's was much cheaper. Wal-Mart is only a little more expensive than Sam's.

The one advantage to 1-800-contacts is that after your initial order, they would keep refilling without an updated prescription. Sam's and Wal-Mart don't.

I believe that doctors are required by law to give you your prescription. If you have trouble with that, contact your state's consumer affairs division.

It is Federal Law now that Physicians must release you prescription.

I use VisionDirect.com

If you order several boxes at once, you get an even bigger discount.

I also use visiondirect.com - very fast and reasonable

I've been ordering contacts through 1-800-CONTACTS for years and never had any problems.

I have ordered from 1-800 contacts before too. I had them get my RX from my doc. Just put your doc's info in and they do the work. I had great luck with them. about 20 bucks cheaper PER BOX than my doc's office!! I didn't check walmart or Sam's so can't speak to them being cheaper or not. I did check a couple of the other on line contact places (can't remember the names off hand) but they were both more expensive.

Good luck.
I was very pleased and would do it again.

Has anyone ever ordered rigid gas permeable contacts through any of these companies?

Yes. That is what I wear. I haven't looked in a while - but www.acleans.com was the cheapest ( I pay $35 per contact and usually have a $5 off coupon)

I haven't placed on order yet, but found great pricing on B&L/soflens 66 Toric at visiondirect.com. Glad to see some positive feedback here about them because I found them through a search and never heard of them before.

Yep...as someone else posted, legally the doctor is required to give you a copy of your prescription. My doctor has never had a problem doing this for me.

::yes:: To all of it! Docs are REQUIRED to give you your script if you ask for it. All of my docs have always given it to me before I asked, though, so I never had to get insistant.

My Acuvue and Acuvue2 were $18.88/box at WalMart, and my eye doc wanted like $34/box! Highway robbery!

I've used 1-800-contacts when I moved to Torics in one eye...they were cheaper than WalMart on those. Had to call in the script and they called to verify it....or maybe I had to fax in the written script...hmmm....can't really remember which....but I know they verified it before they'd send me any lenses.

Moving into RGP's now, though, so haven't bought any lenses anywhere in a while....

Don't mean to hijack....but can I ask you about RGP's? I was told I have to move into these, but doc at old home refused to start the fitting process 'cause I was moving....said they were custom made and hard to fit and would take several refits to get them right. If that's the case, how can you get them through mail order? Or and I just misunderstanding him? This is all new to me! We just moved and I haven't found a new eye doc yet, so haven't started the process....

(OH, and I'm moving into RGP's due to keratoconus...could that make me need custom ones?)

I work for an Eye Clinic and your doctors office HASSSSS to give you any of your records no matter what, it's the law. But if you started your fit and did not return for any follow ups, then your prescription isn't finished and they can't release it... but as far as ordering your contacts online of course we don't want you to do that, but it's just like a patient who has been coming to see us for years, but has an insurance change that we can't file on, I'm not going to get pissy with them because they go some where else... if it were me I would go where my insurance pays (or where it's cheaper)... besides, most people stay with us because of our friendly ways.

People don't really use the online services where I work, but usually once a week (and we see at least 40 pts a day). I'll get a fax from someone ordering online and we just mark that it's correct and send it back (if we don't send it back in time it still goes through because it says we don't have to send it back as long as the information is correct).

The only thing about ordering things like that online is check your expiration date... I know places like 1800petmeds has a habit of sending you expired products.

Anyways, I would trust them! I heard they are very fast and much cheaper! Why not save when you can. OH and if you are afraid of them getting upset, you could always just say "i'm going out of town I was wondering if i could get my cl perscription, just incase, i like to keep one in my wallet anyways". Because the online places have to get your prescription checked with your office they will see that you are ordering them somewhere else...

Its been over 10 years since I've had these and I didn't have to go to multiple fittings. I had my initial fitting and then have gone every 2 years for my annual exam. My doc hands me my prescription and I order my contacts. I wear the Boston Envision and have never had a problem. Sorry I couldn't be much help!
