Anyone NOT request a specific building before arrival???

I requested a specific cabin loop for our last trip and was please with our location.

This time around, however, we are staying at POR and although I'd like to stay in the mansions, I think it may be more "surprising" and "magical" if we just kind of fly by the seat of our pants and go wherever they put us. I'm sure my kids would like AB better given its rustic appearance.

So, have any of you just gone on the trip w/o requesting a building and been happy?

We almost always 'take what we get'. We have been in just about every section of POR and I don't think you will be unhappy with any of them. It's a great resort and the 'surprise' factor is part of the fun for us. We even take 'bets' on what section we will be in each trip. We have even gotten a free upgrade in the past which we didn't request. It was great.

At CSR I requested Ranchos and they were going to put us in Casitas but moved us when I asked again at check in. I requested a building (5) once at POFQ and got it but we had to wait a few hours to get into the room. We also got a water view upgrade once at POFQ when I made no requests. At POR we did not get the building we requested (AB 14) it was full. At AKL I requested a view with Zebras and they tried to put us on a savannah with no Zebras and actually no animals at all (it was being re-surfaced.) Since we were paying concierge and the requests were showing in the system, they upgraded us to a 2 bedroom suite (nice!) At WL last August I requested nothing and got upgraded from standard to courtyard view (again nice!) I am not requesting anything at the Polynesian this October. I will let the CM's decide

When DH and I stayed at POFQ for our honeymoon, we didn't request anything special. I probably didn't even realize that I could. We received a corner room that overlooked the river. It was on the opposite side of the pool and didn't have any "traffic" passing by. We got the perfect honeymoon room without even asking for anything special.

We've stayed at POR many times - our favourite is either Oak Manor or Magnolia Terrace. Sometimes we request it but not always. The staff are excellent there - see what room you get and if you don't like it go back and ask for another one. A number of times we've been upgraded to water view rooms!

We will be cking into POR w/o requesting anything particular this year. We uhave always stayed in the Bayou due to the need for the trundle bed. Since we have 1 less child staying w/ us, they might put us in the Mansion section. I dont care, as long as the room is clean. I love POR, and I'll be happy enough just to be there. Have fun

The only request I ever have is for a non-smoking room. Never been disappointed with what we've been assigned and quite often have been very pleasantly surprised at the location. Magic happens!

I've never been disappointed with any room at POR. We usually request a section (Bayou) but not a building and we are about 50/50 on getting Bayou or Mansions, but both are very nice and we've never had a 'bad' room.

Personally, I think the more specific people get with requests the more they are setting themselves up for disapointment.

I have found that we have tended to get better rooms and views when we do not make any specific requests. Not sure why, but we have generally been happier with the room that way.

I ALWAYS ask for an upgrade or a specific room when checking in. I've been upgraded to Concierge for nothing many times, and even got a 2 BR suite for 25 extra a night (we had 2 rooms reserved and they didnt have connectings available, so I asked, and VOILA)

We never make any requests, except non-smoking. Part of the magic is being surprised by our room. Being in ANY room at WDW is infinitely better than being in my office!

We also just take what's assigned to us at check in. And, we've never been disappointed!! This past Oct, I did ask at checkin if there were any rooms available in 101 Dalmations, and they said yes - which made my little girl very, very happy!

I like just going with the flow.... We were once upgraded at the Polynesian, without asking. And, our room at the Grand Floridian was also a great room! Again, we've never been disappointed with any of our rooms!!

I like the Disney magic that happens when they assign you to a room. They get that twinkle in their eye when they tell you your room assignment. We have gotten many nice rooms by letting them pick.

I used to drive myself crazy worrying about where my room would be and faxing in requests. In December, just my Dh and I stayed at WL for one night before a cruise. I decided I wouldn't ask for anything, and figure whatever I got, that was what God wanted me to have and I would be happy. I booked a standard room. We checked in and my husband stood there stunned when I did not ask for an upgrade. A CM took us to the elevator and told us to get to our floor we needed to put our key in the slot. I almost jumped thru the elevator roof. I whispered to my husband--THAT"S CONCIERGE!! He didn't believe me until we walked past the tea and cookies set up on the way to our room. I was so suprised and so grateful. It was awesome! Just letting you know-ya never know!!

For the first time, my reservation is not tied to Whitegloves' reservation. Now, I wouldn't have made any requests, but since it is our wedding/honeymoon trip, my fiance and I decided to request the mansions. When I told the CM it was my reservation that was tied to my Disney Fairytale Wedding, she asked me all kinds of questions. She even suggested some things I might want to request, like a King size bed. She was very nice! I got the feeling from her that it was okay to make requests. I probably won't in the future, because like Whitegloves said, I like the surprise!

Besides non-smoking, we have never requested anything specific. We have gone for years and I am amazed at the number of posts inquiring about specific rooms. Bring your smile, sense of humor and patience. After all, you're at WDW.
