Anyone NOT like Liberty Tree Tavern?

We have never been to LTT before and I currently have it booked for before our MNSSHP in Oct. However, DH is not all that thrilled with the whole 'Thanksgiving menu' for dinner. We've been to Crystal Palace and love it, but want to try something different. Have also been to Tony's, Ohana, Chef Mickeys, Kona Cafe. I'm starting to wonder if we should eat at a counter service, have some snacks, and enjoy the party. We also are staying concierge at Poly (never been) and maybe could get some good food there for a lite dinner as well? Any opinions?

I have never liked LTT. Bland, dry meat. Very processed. Not even up to par with the "Thanksgiving" food you would eat at home. It just didn't seem like "real" turkey.

I won't go so far as to say it was gross--but none of us enjoyed the meal. Oh, but the salad and bread were good!

I know many love this place, especially before parties, but we weren't crazy about it.

We did it before MNSSHP twice now (2002, 2004) and I thought it was alright but my girls didn't like it. They didn't like the pepper in the veggies or the turkey and my younger DD especially didn't like the Stuoffer's mac & cheese.

I thought the salad dressing and bread and butter were good.

Anyway, when planning our dinner before MNSSHP in 2005 (and last year) I suggested LTT again and both my girls said NO! They said they'd rather try Tony's so I booked Tony's. We've now done Tony's two times before parties and enjoyed it both times. Funny, because Tony's gets such bad reviews here on the DIS.

It goes to show that you should try all restaurants for yourself at least once.

Oh, but I bet this thread will be 2-3 pages long by tomorrow morning. Sometimes I feel that the LTT is one of those places you *can't* say anything bad about.:)

I have only eaten at the LTL once but i really enjoy it. I am going to eat there June 18 for a birthday party can not wait...:) :) :)

When we would eat here in the 90's, I thought it was great. But we ate here again in September, for the first time in awhile, the food was not nearly as good. It all seemed like it had been sitting out somewhere for far to long so a lot of it was cold, and dried out. Not acceptable when you are paying $30 per person. Plus, our party was all adults and one of the character handlers was taking Pluto only to tables with kids. Last I checked, I paid the same as those families so why shouldn't I be able to get my picture with Pluto too?

We ate at Liberty Tree Tavern In Sept. 2005, right before attending the MNSSHP. The adults thought the food was subpar....Stouffers mac n cheese, dried-out cold turkey, etc. However, the characters were all in Halloween costumes and the kids loved that part. Many great interactions and pictures of our kids, also dressed up, with the characters in their costumes. If you can do an early dinner, before the party gets started, then go for it. If your reservation is during the party, then maybe a quick counter service may be a better way to spend your time. It was fun to try once, so you probably can't go wrong. Have fun!!!

We ate there in Sept 2005 and the food was good. DS and DD (8 and 19 months at the time) were very good there. It was nice to do it once, but we won't do it again. We would rather do CS and have more time for the rides.

Just to clarify a bit. The characters are not in full costumes at LTT like they are in the park for meet and greets during the Halloween parties. They only wear an eye mask or an apron that says "Happy Halloween" on it. Pluto wears half a pumpkin on his head. They wear full costumes on their whole bodies and heads in the park for photo ops and also in the parade.

I have always liked the LTT, but I liked it better when it was a menu service.

We thought it was okay, but WAY too much food for us to eat. We could've eaten at least two more meals with what was tossed out. That in itself was enough for us to say "never again".

The food was okay, but as others have said the bread, salad & dessert was good. The rest was passable. The best part was the fantastic character interaction. It made the meal palatable.

We ate at LTT a few years back- maybe 3- and were disappointed. We love CP- it is our favorite- but wanted to try something different. We had a party of 5 adults and 2 kids and all the adults thought it was just -ok. Nothing wonderful or special- and certainly not as good as CP in our opinions. But, like my theory was then, you never know until you try it. So, if your heart is set on something that will be to your satisfaction- go with the one you know you like. If you won't be terribly upset if you happen to not like it- try LTT. You never know until you try. But, for my family, we won't be returning.

We only had lunch there two years ago. But, we did not like the food. The service was pretty bad as well. There are people who think lunch there is the best. I had some kind of turkey sandwich (not even real turkey on it - the slimy coldcut type). My husband had the pot roast (which he enjoyed on a previous trip). This time it was overcooked and very, very dry. He had to wait 30 minutes after lunch arrived to get his drink. Our boys had the macaroni and cheese, which resembled orange mashed potatoes. They deemed them "mushy," "yucky," and I tried it as well. There was no consistency at all. It was as if someone put them in a blender. We asked for a replacement, and were given exactly the same type of macaroni. It very well could have been an off day. I think I would try everything once!

Good luck in your decision.

I'm one of the few that did not care for LTT. We had better character interaction elsewhere and we did not care for the food at all.

We were there last month..and we enjoyed it. In addition to the turkey there was beef. My family enjoyed both the meal and the characters.

It is not my fav meal. I too liked it better when it was a menu restaurant, but even then, I would choose Crystal Palace or Chef Mickey over it. When we go to the MVMCP in November, we are doing Chef Mickey at 5:00, then over to the Party. With the monorail/boat system, it really does open up lots of options at the resort hotels.

DH and I were there in February for P&P Party and we both enjoyed it. We like the food and the character interaction was great. My advice on mixed reviews is that if it is something you have always wante to try, go for it. If it's something you are a cautious about, and if someone in your party isn't thrilled about it, then maybe you should do something else.

I can totally see where people would differ on this place, especially during dinner when there is set menu.

I enjoyed my last meal there. The restaurant is well themed, the service and characters were good.

That said I'll have to agree with the previous posters;

The mac&cheese was basic Stouffers. Not bad but certainly not special.

The turkey seemed "processed". Edible, not bad just not great.

Salads, potatoes, bread etc were all good.

The food was not close to being bad enough to send back but certainly wasn't good enough to rave about.

edited to say my opinion would have been a lot more negative if the restaurant wasn't themed and located in the MK.

I had horrible food at Tony's--had to send it back twice.

I was on the DDP, I might have been a lot more critical if I had paid the menu price for my meal.
