Anyone near Mayfield, Kentucky? Gotta make the trip there.

We are thinking of getting a new puppy from a breeder in Mayfield, Kentucky and we live in North Carolina. They say they can ship her to us, but I am not thrilled about her having to be sent in the cargo area, so we are considering driving to get her. However, it is a 13 hour drive according to Mapquest. Just wondered if it is a very rural area and if there are nice hotels nearby?

We live about 30-45 minutes from Mayfield....with family just minutes from there and my SIL is an instructor at the college. Mayfield is a nice little town but I don't recall any "nice" hotels. If you drive into the Paducah, KY area they have many more choices with lots of hotels and chain restaurants. Across the Ohio river from Paducah in Metropolis, IL there is a Harrah's casino and hotel.
I'm not real familiar with what's "in" Mayfield but my DH grew up around there so I'll ask him and see if he knows of anything.

I lived in Murray KY for years and that is about 20 minutes from Mayfield. I'm not sure how you will come to Mayfield, but chances are you will come through Murray or Benton. There are several 2-star quality hotels in those areas. From what I remember about Mayfield, there is a Super 8 Motel. I stayed in there with my high school cheerleaders when I took them to cheer camp in Mayfield. It definetely wasn't deluxe, but it was clean. Once you decide on your route, I can probably help you out with hotel choice. Just PM me if you want.
