Hi Scrappers - anyone make their own birth announcements? I just got a homemade thank-you note for a baby shower gift I sent someone. It was soooo cute and gave me the idea to create our own birth announcements? Any advice from someone who has done this or seen any? I am planning to go to our LSS tomorrow to see if she has any ideas! Thanks in advance!

I did!

They weren't real extravigant or anything. I purchased fancy invitation paper at Target and printed them off my computer. Like I said not fancy. Very easy. The Office supply stores also sell invitation paper. I just happened to find the perfect paper at Target that was on clearance. Lucky break.

I'm sure you could make some very very nice handmade ones if you go to the craft stores. Michaels has some beautiful card making embellishments. We didn't have a Michael's around here when I made mine.

I did for my youngest daughter back in 98- I want to do it for anymore (hopefully sometime soon-cross fingers) kids because I think it just adds something personal to them :)

I am planning on making them in July!

:)

I hope to get a beautiful black and white photo with any luck
then I want to have copies of that made
and basically
overlay it with vellum and all the stats printed on that
then maybe a ribbon at the top -
I am thinking of just buying the premade card/envies at Mikes and cutting the slits for the pics and adhereing the vellum with brads or eyelets (then the ribbon would run through the eyelet or under the brad)
Hope that made ANY sense

I am sure there are tons of ideas!

i made them 8 year ago when I had DS. I stamped them with stamps I bought from Stampin' Up. I have also made invites and annoucements and sold them.

Hi guys! Your ideas sound great! I went to my LSS today and had success!! One of the idea books they had included bookmarks. I decided I wanted to make these b/c I like to be different ... also, alot of time people may just throw away cards ... maybe if it is a bookmark, they may actually use it? (Or maybe I am just wishful thinking!)

Anyway ... I bought the tags that are BIG ... 6 inches by 3 inches ... then I got blue paper with baby words printed on it ... I tore the paper so that the bottom half is covered but it has a diagonal tear ... Then, I embossed some blue cardstock (pain in the tuckus b/c you can't see through it) with the block letters to look like ABC's ... then, I tore the edges around each letter and laid them on one side in a row ... then, the nice LSS lady (I am friends with her) helped me make the words on vellum on her computer using DISNEY font :) to say: dorable and aby and onnor. Sooooooooooooooooo, when we attached the vellum the front of the tag says:

A (block letters torn around edges) dorable (on vellum)
B aby
C onnor

(Baby's name is Connor)
Kinda like ABC"s ... then I bought some charms to add to the ribbon I am going to put in the whole at the top of the tag ... you know like a real bookmark!

On the back, I will make vellum stickers after the baby is born with the statistics and a nice poem.

Ok, I promise it looks MUCH better than it sounds here. LOL! I wish I had a digital camera to post a pic of it!!!

I just had to share this idea! Thanks bunches for listening!

Sounds like a great idea! I made just computer printed ones for DS#1 6 1/2 years ago. nothing fancy, but they were cute and original. For DS#2 I went a *real* original route  and got annoucements printed up at Costco. If there is ever a #3 I will probably do something fancy and scrapbookee.

UGH I did and it was horrible! LOL!
This was 6 years ago before I really had a clue about anything! I decided I would do the inside of the card on the computer (easy) and then I would stamp, emboss and color a card!
Well I didn't have a heat gun but a HEAT STRIPPING GUN! Hey that works I think...so needless to say I came close to burning down the house several times...Lots of scorced paper!
But I did manage to finish them all and the house is still standing!
Would I try it again? SURE but this time with the right tools!
