We are kind of slow to catch on to "fads" down here, so it wouldn't surprise me if this one had already run it's course throughout the rest of the country.

The little (or larger) purses are made out of Capri Sun, or Koolaid Jammer drink pouches sewn together. They are just adorable, and a little silly, too. I am making 6 of them for teachers' gifts for end of year filled with candies and gift cards. Just wondered if anyone else out there was making them?:p

I saw a website where someone was selling the small ones for $10. They are easy, but time consuming. I think it would take a while to make any worthwhile money...::yes::

I guess we're even slower than you'll are because I've never heard of them. Do you open the pouches or are they just washed out and sewn together intact? As many of those my DD went through for her lunches at school, I could have made enough for all the girls in the 3rd grade!

One of the teachers at our school had one. It was adorable and my children said they were giving all empty pouches to some teacher who was making purses. Very cute.

Yes, I was quite the laugh of the school this past week, emptying my drink pouches into every container available for the kids to drink at recess so I could have 72 of the same drink pouch. (each of my version takes 12)

Cindy, sorry, I knew when I wrote that it was as clear as mud. You do use empty rinsed out pouches. It is best to empty them through a slit in the bottom, thus my filling the containers at school.

I hope this works as a link, if not you can key it in yourself. ( I am crafty, but technologically challenged. )

I used only two on each side of mine, and made the handles out of the pouches, too. IMHO, they are cuter than the one on this website. I DID use the Tang Watermelon with the monkey, they are really cute.. Can't wait to hand them out Friday, although most of the teachers know already...

If you want a little more detail about the way I made them, post again on this thread. I will check back later for more input...:wave2:

The directions were a bit unclear. Can you post exactly how you did that? My niece and her friends would LOVE that!

I had actually started to post my directions, but thought they sounded unclear, too. I will give it a try, sorry if it is confusing.

this is assuming that the maker knows how to sew somewhat.

All the seams are with the sewing on the Printed side of the pouches. This is backwards to if you are sewing an article of clothing. The selvage(?) is not inside the purse but on the outside...

This is for my smaller, but IMHO, cuter version. If you want a slightly larger purse, Countrytime "Large" pouches are adorable.
Choose 12 of your favorite drink pouches, and a pretty contrasting or matching thread.

You empty the 12 pouches by slitting under the bottom where there is sort of a "pucker", dump the drink in a jug. You will need some kind of "goop" remover like "oops" or lighter fluid to remove the residue from where the straw was attached to the pouch. Wash off the "oops" and rinse out the pouch. Allow to dry.

Long side=2 pouches. Sew (zig-zag) the 2 pouches side by side, overlapping one over the other about 1/4 inch. Make 2 sides.

Bottom=2 pouches. Sew them end of one to the top of the other, measuring how much to overlap based on the length of the long side.

Handle= 2 pouches. Sew them the same as the bottom, end to top, but leave them as long as possible, overlapping about 1/4 inch. Place these connected pouches face down on the table and fold 1/3 in, then the other side 1/3 in, like you fold a letter to put into an evelope. Turn over and sew down each side with zig zag.
Make 2 handles.

Position handles on wrong side of the top of one of the long sides, about 3/4 inches down. On RIGHT (printed) side of long side, sew (zigzag) across where the bottom of the handle is, using a stay stitch to secure it. Stitch it again about 1/2 inch up from that. Repeat with other handle and side.

Matching one long side to the Bottom-Wrong sides together, attach (sew zz) bottom to one long side. (sew on printed side) Repeat with bottom and other side....(we're almost done....)

Attach a single pouch to each end the same way as the long sides
wrong sides together, sewing on the printed side. (This seams backwards to if you were sewing an article of clothing, but it is right-the seams come out "inside out", not "hidden")

Now all you have to do is start from the top of one corner and sew all the way down to the bottom, repeating this on all four corners. you can bend this stuff anyway you want to manipulate it around the sewing machine.

I also put a "sticky" velcro dot on the inside of the long sides for closure, not necessary, but a nice touch. They may not stick forever, and it might be a good idea to tack it on before sewing the long sides to the bottom.

They aren't perfect, but actually quite easy, easier if you have one in front of you to have visuals to go along with instructions.
They get easier after you learn what works and what doesn't, and they really are fun to make. If you didn't have to clean the pouches, it would take about 20-30 minutes to sew...

I went back to the website I posted, and I think that you can use the pictures to help you with my version. I didn't use tape to hold mine together while sewing, I just held them together with my fingers. Theirs has 3 pouches on the long sides, mine has 2. Theirs you don't have to measure the 2 pouches on the bottom, mine you do. Theirs have "not cute" handles, mine have cute handles...

:)
I hope I haven't confused you too much. If I can figure out how to turn on my PM, you can send one to me and I will try to help.

I would love to know if you try it, and I will try to help you if I can.::yes:: :wave2:
