I will be taking my son to Sea World and Fiesta Texas this summer (his choice) and am starting to see about hotels. I know that we stayed close to a Chuck E Cheese on Ingrams. Can anyone rec. any safe and nice hotels?

I looked up Chuck E Cheese to figure out where it was and recognized the name Ingram.

Thanks in advance!!!!

I live about 40 miles from San Antonio, so I actually never stayed in the city. Most name brand hotels should be fine. If you'll have transportation, I may suggest staying somewhere near the convention center. San Antonio is a great convention town, and most visitor services are nearby, and the convention center hotels will be on or near the beautiful River Walk and the RiverCenter shopping mall. At the shopping mall you can catch river taxis and tourist tour boats to see the city from the river. Be aware, though, that San Antono hotels do have a reputaion for being on the expensive side. If you want a very historic hotel, the Menger is one of the oldest hotels (Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders stayed there), it is very near the river walk, next door to the Alamo (remember that?) and within easy walking distance of most tourist attractions downtown, including Ripley's, a wax museum, the IMAX theater, the Institute of Texas Cultures, the Alamo Dome, and the Tower of the Americas. You would need a car to get to Sea World and Fiesta Texas. San Antonio is considered a pretty tourist friendly city.

Thanks! As much as I HATE to drive, I will be driving down. It only takes about 4 hours...maybe 4.5 hours depending on Austin traffic.

We have stayed at a really nice hotel on the Riverwalk--La Mansion and then have also stayed at a Motel 6 close by the Riverwalk. We love staying at La Mansion but yes a bit on the expensive side. We always stay on the Riverwalk and tehn just drive to Fiesta Texas and Sea World.

We plan on going to San Antonio this summer also. :) (Although I must admit that the lure of Medieval Times in Dallas is VERY strong....)

Don't live in San Antonio, but did stay there a few years ago, at the Menger. Since it was mentioned, I thought I'd throw my two cents in. It is very close to the mall which connects to the River Walk. I was there for a week for a convention, and loved walking the River Walk every evening. There were lots of hotels around so I'm sure you'll find something. I liked the Menger Hotel - great room service. Bathrooms were pretty small and old, but full of history. And the Alamo was neat. Have a great time!

I don;t remember the name but there's a mexican place on the Riverwalk that's very good.I'm going to Six Flags with my BF in June so I'm happy right now

We just came back from there and stayed at the Amerisuites on the riverwalk. It was close to the attractions and we walked pretty much everywhere. It was a nice hotel and pretty roomy, with friendly service. You would have to drive to Seaworld, and FT. We had a good time, it is a nice city.:bounce:

We also just got back, and stayed at the Hyatt on the Riverwalk. (Thank you Priceline - $65/night!) Our kids are young, and the room at the Hyatt was a bit disconcerting cuz one whole wall was a glass door looking into the atrium.

Took us about 25 minutes to buzz out to Seaworld in very light traffic Sunday AM. There's a Wal-Mart right near Seaworld - you may want to buy snacks there. Also, somewhere (maybe on the Seaworld website?) I saw something about a meal ticket that you can buy which covers entree, side and drink at any of their restaurants.

Have fun!

Have lived and worked in San Antonio for 15 years. I would not stay in the Ingram area, not the best place to stay unless you have to. Stay on the I-10 area, between 410 and 1604, around the 10,000 block. I do not know if you are on a budget, but if you are, there is a nice new Best Western on I-10 called Fiesta Inn, and a beautiful brand new Drury Suites at I-10 and Wurzbach Road. Fiesta Texas is really, really close if you stay on I-10 in this area, and Sea World is an easy shot away down 1604. If you are not on a budget, try to get a hotel on the Riverwalk, and try one of the discount hotel Web sites. The Marriot Riverwalk is nice, La Mansion and Hyatt are beautiful but you will need a discount!! Let me know if you would like any more info!!

Texan:

I read that Radisson Hill Country Resort & Spa is the hotel associated with Sea World. Is it too fancy for a s ingle parent and son? How far away is it from Sea World and Fiesta Texas?

I love San Antonio but I echo what was said about Ingram area.

Marriot Rivercenter is really nice and has a great breakfast buffet. Also, Hilton Palacio Del Rio is equally nice. They are not cheap, but discounts are not hard to come by. We have stayed at both for less than $100 a night in the summer. And you can't beat the Riverwalk for entertainment and dining. Call the visitors center or do a web search for hotel discounts in San Antonio.

CourtasanSatine, you may be thinking of Casa Rio. It's the oldest Mexican restaurant on the river and our favorite!
