Anyone live in Frederick, MD??

May I ask why you need to stay with the same rental company you are with now? There are a lot of nice apartment complexes up here.

Sure... I didn't share too much of the story because I didn't think anyone would be interested...

We've lived in the complex we live in now for 3 years with no real complaints. The staff in the office has changed a few times, and it seems with each changing they got worse, but other than that it was cool. Our lease was up for renewal in January (we first moved there in Jan 07), and we decided we wanted to move to a bigger place (we got more stuff and 2 cats over those 3 years and it just made for pretty cramped living in the space we were in). So a few months before it was up, we let the office know that we wanted to move to a bigger apt there. There was a bigger apt that was opening up in January, so we decided to move there, since up until this point, we've had no MAJOR complaints.

Well, we moved in, and the new place is horrid. In the old apartment, we had no problems with our neighbors, never ONCE had a pest problem. Well, we've lived in the new place for about 5 weeks now, and it became apparent the first or second night we stayed there that there were issues. First, there is a big pest problem in the new place :scared1: :sad2: . Also, one of our cats found a dead mouse one day and dragged it out into the middle of the floor (I guess she thought it was a toy) :scared1:. Our neighbors smoke and burn incense and the smell is horrid and comes through all of the vents so strongly that it smells as if there is someone in our apartment smoking.

Add to this the fact that the rental office has taken all of this time to get the details of the move right (they had the new rate in the system incorrectly, so our rent showed up as higher than the rate they quoted us, they didn't relay all of the details to us about what happens to the security deposit and what happens if there is any damages [they charged us for replacing some of the tile in the kitchen even though we had been there for 3 years and the tile was NOT pristine when we moved in  ], they had late fees attached to our account that should not have been there and we have had to call them almost everyday to get them taken off... the list goes on) and it all makes for a very sour taste in our mouths (not to mention being perpetually grossed out by the pest problem) and we just want to be DONE with that particular property.

So, because we just signed a new lease, in order to break that lease and move to a different apartment managed by a different company, it would cost us about $2500, not to mention whatever security deposit and first month's rent that would be due at a new place. If we simply transfer to another property owned by the same company (like the place in Frederick), we only have to pay a small (couple hundred dollar) transfer fee.

Since we are not in a position to pay $2500+, the easiest thing to do was to look for a different property managed by the same company. The other properties that are in MoCo are.... undesireable. The nicest one in our price range is the place in Frederick... hence we are (most likely) gonna move there.

Whew! Sorry for the long post... but I DID say it was a long and sordid story... :rotfl:

Thanks again for all the info! :flower3:

Sorry to hear about all of those troubles. I would want to get the heck out of there too. Maybe you'll like Frederick enough to stay here after your lease is up.
