Anyone know what you can do if you don't have park tickets...

for the first afternoon?
Can you still go to Downtown Disney or anyother areas to look around?

TIA!

Yes, you can go to Downtown Disney. Downtown Disney doesn't charge any type of admission. It is made up of shops and restaurants. It would be a great place to spend the afternoon or evening.

-Walk around DTD
-Ride the Monorails
-Play Mini-Golf
-Walk on the Boardwalk
-Visit AKL; view the Animals and the lovely hotel
-Go to Ft. Wilderness Petting Zoo
-Swim in the pool
-Rent water mice on one of the lakes

that's a great list... we like to just bum around the resort and get a feel for the place... do some swimming, get our plans set for the week ahead, read the schedule for shows and such to help finalize our itinerary... alot of people also "kick-off" their vacation w/a character meal at a resort (i.e. chef mickey's at the contemporary or cinderella at grand floridian) which is always fun and really gets you in the disney spirit!

The ideas listed so far are good ones. Your idea about going to Downtown Disney on the first night is a good one too, and something we have done before.

You haven't mentioned where you are staying, but that could open up the possiblities too. We took the boat from POFQ to DD once and that was nice. There is plenty to keep you busy at AKL without leaving.

Don't forget to take advantage of the many free places you can watch Wishes from. The well know places are the beach at the Poly or from the CR tower, but I've found a better place.

We were staying at WL and had taken the resort launch to MK before closing (you don't need park admission for that) Just before Wishes started we boarded the big ferry to the TTC. Hardly anyone was on board because everyone was still in the part waiting for the fireworks. We had just started back from the TTC with even fewer people on board when Wishes started. You have a great view of everything from the top deck. The captain even slowed down so we wouldn't get to the dock too early. You can't hear the music at first, but we could hear it at the end as we neared the dock. The ferry docked right as Wishes was ending and we hopped off and were the first ones on the launch back to WL.

I hope you find something fun, free, and magical to do!

thanks for the wonderful ideas, can you take part in the petting zoo if you're not staying there?
also, we're staying @ the POP.
thx guys

Yes, the petting zoo is free to anyone. We went last year with DD's 5 and 6 months. The older enjoyed petting the animals and the youngest liked watching them. Have fun.

Are you getting MYW tickets? The cost to add an extra day may literally be a few dollars. You might see Illuminations or Fantamic your first night.

I added an extra day onto our tickets from 4 day to 5 for our upcoming trip, and the total cost was around $5 for all 3 of us (2 adult, 1 child).....not much at all. That's an option if you want to go to the parks your first day and you're arriving early enough.

I don't know if we'll go our first day or not, we have on our other two trips and I really hate to break the tradition (lol), but we're driving this time instead of flying, and after driving 2 days, we may just not feel like it. We are planning to eat dinner at Chef Mickey's too.....and ride the monorail around.

When I went two years ago we were waiting to check in to CSR and decided to go take golf lessons. They had availablity and the taxi fare is apart of the cost of the lessons, but not the tip of course. :-) And I found out I don't like golf, but my boyfriend loved it!
