Anyone know the policies on required carseats for young passengers???

We're flying Delta, just about to go check their website, but my sister'n'law is flying Northwest and received an email that told her they "were required to supply a carseat for her 4 year old"- I've never heard of this- I know our state (TN) just passed a law that any child under 9 will be required to use a booster- but was unaware of airlines changing their policies- Northwest specified that the lap boosters wouldn't work- you had to have the full back carseat. I'm off to check Delta- we have 3 children ages 4,5, & 8 and were hoping to NOT carry carseats on the plane.

Each airline has it's own policy for car seats. I believe Delta's is optional, suggested, but optional.

Delta doesn't require it to older children.... atleast I hope that policy hasn't changed? We are bringing our youngest in a carseat- OFCOURSE! But it's really hard to find a 5 point harness (boosters using only the seatbelt are not approved) for bigger children. I certainly couldn't bring my almost 6yr old's booster- it's a britax and too big for the seat! He's barely over 40lbs and only 44 inches tall- so he still uses this seat in our van but it wouldn't fit (too wide) on the airplane seats.
(My oldest is 9.5- doubtful they'd require one for her.... she's almost as big as I am. LOL)
