I am working on some journaling from a 50's night and I can think of every word to this song but I can't come up with the actual title of it,

Here goes.
In 1814 we took a little trip,
along with colonel Jackson down the mighty missip.
We took a little bacon and we took a little beans,
we fought the bloody British in the town of new Orleans.

If you need more, like I say I remember every word.

It is the Battle of New Orleans and I keep thinking that Johnny Horton sang it..??

Yes, it's The Battle of New Orleans, a 1959 #1 Hit Single for Johnny Horton. Music and lyrics by Jimmy Driftwood.

I remember singing it when I was very, very, very...young. :) I think I remember most of the words too! :)

Thanks. I knew someone would know it. I even knew it was sung by Johnny Horton. It's crazy how things just won't come to you. Once someone said it, it was a palm to forehead kind of moment. lol

My dad used to sing that all the time when we were in the car....I thought he had made it up for the longest time!:p

The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band also did a remake of this song. You can find it on their greatest hits CD
my favorite line...

"so we grabbed an alligator & powdered his behind. & when we touched the powder off the gator lost his mind!"

My favorite song as a little girl!!! I used to sing it with my mother all the time. How funny.
