Anyone know of Hawk's Cay Resort in the Keys?

After our trip to Orlando, we fly back to Canada via Miami.
So we thought that we would spend a couple of nights in the keys.
We have heard mixed reviews from tripadvisor regarding Hawk's Cay Resort near Marathon in the Keys.
Does anyone here have any input regarding this place?

Thanks,
Sandra

I'm in the process of trying to decide where to stay in the Keys next March Break and Hawk's Cay seems to be a good, although pricey choice. They aren't showing any availability for us or I would probably stay there...

We have been searching and searching for where to stay on the keys. . . .
Trip advisor has some great reports of Hawk's Cay and some not so great reports.
It does seem pricey, but we were able to get a rate of $182.00(U.S.) a night through the CAA web site. If you are an ama member their prices are worth checking into.
Have you tried expecia.ca or hotel.ca for booking? The best deal, by far, though, was through ama.

We stayed there about 4 years ago with our kids for 3 days. We had a really lovely room that opened to a deck at waters edge. The feel of the hotel was like a Carribean Hotel. There was a dolphin centre next door and although we didn't do the dolphin encounter in the water we did sit and watch them for hours. The food was expensive and we ended up leaving in the evening to go to the Outback about 10 minutes up the highway. There isn't much else around. It was very quiet and secluded.

Rebecca,

Thanks for your reply.

As I had mentioned, remarks we read on the trip advisor baord had us concerned as to whether or not we should stay there.

Our stay in the keys is wrapping up our Orlando, Disney vacation.
We are also doing the Discovery Cove Dolphin swim.

We were basically looking for a nice, as you put it Carribean type feel of a resort to unwind. We want to do a day trip to Key West.

Places in the Keys seem fairly expensive and in comparison to other places, we didn't think the deal we got at Hawk's Cay was too bad for what it appears to have.

We aren't interested in swimming with the dolphins there, but watching them would be entertaining.

What did you think of the Lagoon area? Is it a place you can go swimming?
I noticed they show pictures of their adult pool but not the others.
We will have our two young daughters with us so the adult pool is out for us. What did you think of the other pools?

What was your over all impression of the resort?
Would you stay there again?

Thanks,

Sandra

Cujo...can you explain in a little more detail how you were able to get that rate and where...? I tried going to the CAA website but had no luck in finding out how to get that kind of information. Also, when I attempted to book there through Hawks Cay website, they have no availability. What dates are you booking? I'm waiting on some information from a couple of other places that might fit the bill for us - somone recommended Banana Bay so I'm looking into that...

We happened to have an ama travel book that mentioned visiting their site for deals on accomodations, otherwise I never would have thought of it.

They say to go to aaa.com, on their homepage I clicked on travel.
Then hotels, which took me to another page and I typed in Key Largo, Florida, which brought up two areas for selection:

"The Florida Keys, FL near: Key Largo, FL", this is the one I chose.

It brought up quite a few hotels.

I have noticed, in checking back, that the price is higher now than what we got it for, but still worth checking into.

We are booked for Febuary 11th - 13th.

We were also looking at the Holiday Inn, but when we called the hotel directly they said they had no room, yet aaa showed space available.

Let me know if there is anything else we can help you out with.

Sorry to be so long in posting. We have listed our home for sale and we've been cleaning!

I only remember the large pool by the waterfront which had lots of chairs. There was a quiet pool but we had three kids with us so we didn't bother. I think the weekend brunch was a good deal for us but we ate from our cooler and then left the property a couple of nights for dinner. The lagoon didn't impress us and that's why we stayed at the pool. We found food and drinks very expensive but the dollar is in much better shape now. It seems to me a couple of margaritas by the pool was $15 us and that's a few years ago!

The staff was very friendly and helpful and we would go back again.
