Anyone know how to do 5th grade math?

Seriously though, DS10 is doing something that I don't remember how to do.

His paper says, use the distributive property to restate each expression and find the product.

12 X 18

= (12x10) + (12x8)
= 120 + 96
= 216

To put it into distributive form, you take the GCF (greatest common factore) of the numbers (6 in this case) and divide each by that GCF and put the products in parenthasis. 6(2*3)=whatever the answer may be (The thought of math right now is making me cringe in itself!

So I think that's what it means, if not, then I have no clue. I think I may be wrong because I'm not quite sure if you can distribute over multiplication...?

I'd ignore this...the post above me look a lot better. I think I was doing something else...I know that what I did displays the distributive property but I'm not quite sure if it's what they're looking for.

I forgot everything from 5th grade as soon as that school year finished. Now I just use Excel to calculate anything.

All I can think is that they'd factor. Are they factoring in 5th grade?
