Anyone know how they decide which TV shows to release on DVD?

Just saw the Leave it to Beaver thread (something for hubby to get me for Christmas!). Does anyone know how they (whoever "they" are) decide which shows get released on DVD? I've been waiting for the Chris Isaak Show (couple of seasons on Showtime) to be released. He had a guest singer on nearly every episode, so I was wondering if getting releases from all these different singers might be holding it up. Of course, as a die-hard Chris Isaak fan, I'm not even going to speculate that there isn't enough interest out there. Have you seen some of the crap that is out on DVD?

A lot of it has to do with $ and interest. Remember, what you may think is crap may be the tv series that someone else has been waiting years for.

As for the Chris Isaak show, I am going out on a limb and saying that it probably won't be released at least in its original format. You said that he had musical guests every week? Did the guests perform a song? If so, they would most likely have to pay for the rights to use that song on the DVD. Not sure how accurate that is or is it would even apply to that type of show, but many shows have had to either pay big bucks to use songs (Freaks and Geeks) or had to use new songs entirely (Roswell being 1 example.) Some shows even have had to use a different theme song (The Apprentice and latter seasons of Dawson's Creek)
