My dad just gave me my grandmothers flatware set. It is in a flatware wooden box and looks just polished.

I found it to match this:

Queen Bess was patented in 1946 by Oneida and carries the important Tudor Plate backstamp.

I have no idea what I am doing LOL Should I use it for everday or is it something I should put away for special occasions? I guess if one piece is worth 8.00 I shouldn't use it too much :confused3 I haven't counted the pieces, but there has got to be over 100 here. My grandmother was a neat freak and I can tell she took good care of these.

How what and when do I polish these? How do I wash them? How do I care for them?

TIA

It's about $37 per place setting to replace, and it's a silverplate. That means the plating does eventually wear off. It's probably nicer than your everyday stainless steel and does stand up to quite a bit of wear and tear; however, you might feel like the cost of replacing it is too much if pieces get lost/eaten by the dishwasher or disposal.

Do you use china? And if so, do you have silverware to use with it? I have china and about 4 place settings of Rosepoint silver, so I use the silverplate I inherited from my grandmother to supplement. I really don't use it for everyday.

However, I do have to say that a couple of forks from the silverplate have gotten into the regular rotation, and they do wash beautifully in the dishwasher :thumbsup2 and are a bit heavier than my everyday silverware.

The other consideration for me is that because it came from my grandmother, it has sentimental value to it. LOL, she was ALWAYS accusing the maid of stealing it :rotfl2: which is hilarious considering that nearly everything else she owned was way more expensive!

If you store chalk w/ your silver it will cut down on polishing:thumbsup2

Thanks! I will not put it in for everyday, spoons disappear around here and since its GM's and has more sentimental value for me, I would be pretty mad.

Thanks for the info
