First time digital camera buyer here and need some advice. This one has been recommened to be by a friend that is an electronics guru but does not actually own this camera. Does anyone have any experience with the Nikon Coolpix L1?

All information and advice will be GREATLY appreciated!
THANKS!

I'm not sure about the L1, but I have the Nikon Coolpix 4600 and I love it. It is extremely user friendly and I think it's just the right size for a digital. I think the pictures look great on my computer, but I haven't printed any yet.

What I don't like is the software it came with - it's horrible, I think. It basically just gets the pictures into my computer. No editing, no fun stuff. So, I need to get different software for my computer at home.

Also, I'd recommend getting the 5600 instead of the 4600. The 4600 takes short movies, but doesn't record sound. The 5600 has audio and video.

While I'm talking about it, does anyone know how I can get the pictures that are already on my computer (that I took with this digital camera) back onto the card in the camera so I can take the card and print the pictures? One person told me that I have to buy a jump drive to download them and bring that to the store. But I thought there was a way to load the pics back to the card.

Any advice?

I've been looking at that camera too - I have a Nikon 5700 and love it! But I wanted something more compact for everyday use -

I don't see the L1 listed on that web-site - Or am I missing it?

I have the Nikon Coolpix 4600 and love it. We did a ton of research before buying it. It has been a great camera, although I have never tried the software it came with.

We have the Sony Cybershot 5 MP and it is awesome. I am pretty picky about grainy resolution and this one is awesome. Very Compact too. If you go to circuit city's website, you can read customers reviews about cameras, I found this very helpful.

I have the CoolPix 5900 and love it!! :flower:

Instead of putting them back on the card, write them to a cd. Developers accept many different forms of media. If you don't have a cd writer, you can just email the pictures you want developed to a lot of places such as wal-mart and walgreens and I think wolf camera. I'm sure there are many others as well. Then you can just go pick them up in an hour. Saves a trip.

This would all work for me if I didn't have a dinosaur of a computer at home with a non-functioning cd burner. :guilty: We are having major issues with our computer and we are hoping to replace it within a year. But for now, I can only email the pictures after a lengthy ordeal to get them saved small enough to not clog up our email. I tried saving them to a floppy disk, but that gets me about 4 pictures before it's "full". What a hassle!

Thanks for the suggestions!

Put the pictures in a folder and then compress the files using a zip program. ZipCentral is a great freeware program. It has not caused any problems on our computer or added add'l things we didn't want. It's a lot better than winzip; I never could get my files compressed enough. I found zipcentral a few months ago and it's been a lifesaver. I work from home alot so right before I leave work, I backup my program file, zip it up and email it home. My main email account does not allow enough room to send the file to that address, so I got a free email account at yahoo. It has 1 Gb of space so you shouldn't have any problems sending pictures that way and it won't interfere with your primary email account.

Hope this helps!
