DH wants to hit a cabin for our fall vacation, I want to go to Florida. Anyone have a suggestion on a good place to stay with kids for a couple days? If it all works as i have it in my head, it would be something like beach for a couple days, then cabin, then food/wine & MNSSHP at WDW (or vice versa)

thanks!!

How about the cabins at Ft. Wilderness Campground. He gets the cabins - you get Disney - all in one vacation.

We may do that on a future trip

just a little more background-
our next full Disney trip isn't until 2011. This trip is supposed to be a relaxing vacation. He's thinking cabin. I'm thinking beach. But the more I got to thinking about it, we really enjoyed f$w and mnsshp last year. My dd will be in school starting fall 2011, so other then this year I'm not sure when we would be able to go to those events. So I thought maybe if I had a good plan I could talk him into tacking those events on the trip. We definitely want to wait until 2011 for the full Disney trip until my ds 14 months is older and can enjoy it a bit more.

By "cabin", do you mean woods? Honestly, not that many people other than hunters like to spend time in the woods in Florida -- there isn't much there other than snakes, mosquitos, palmettos and pine needles. Fall is hunting season, though, but I understand that licenses for out-of-state hunters are quite pricey.

If by cabin you just mean any vacation where you stay in a self-contained house and do all your own cooking, then sure, there are a zillion little beachy places that fit that description. Choice of beach in fall means choosing your dates carefully; September is still full-on hurricane season, but by October the water in most of the state is getting a bit cold for swimming.

We aren't hunters. I think what dh would best like would be something near a lake or woodsy area. Just quiet and relaxing. And although he'd like it, I'm not wanting primitive. Plumbing is a must!
I was thinking something in the fort myers/sanibel/Tampa type region for the beach, and then in between there and Orlando for the cabin- if a good place exists.
Our dates are flexible, other than trying to time it with f&w and the Halloween party. So maybe early oct or late sept for that. We spend more time near the water than in it so hopefully it would be okay for us.
