Hi Buds!

I need help in the hibiscus department, if you would.

We planted 3 hibiscus about 6 weeks ago, 1 orange, 1 pink, and 1 double red. They have all been doing fine and flowering like crazy until about a week ago. The leaves on the pink one are all turning yellow and starting to fall off. It is still flowering well. The other 2 are fine, they are planted in the same bed with the pink. They all get the same sun, water, fertilizer, etc...

Are hibiscus supposed to start getting ready for winter? Or is there a problem with my little guy? I would post a pic of the plant, but I have yet to unpack my digital camera - it could be anywhwere around here.

Please help!

Hmmm, that does sound strange, especially since the others are doing so well! At first I thought....maybe it's the 'runt' of the litter? ;) :)

I don't know, Sorcerormickey, but if it's still blooming, maybe it's not that uncommon, and is still adjusting. :confused3

Hopefully one of our Buds that grows Hibiscus can give you more ideas, but in the meantime, here's a site that might be helpful.

Any Hibiscus growers out there? :)

Sorcerormickey, it's probably really nice where you are today, isn't it? Sunny, warm? :sunny: It's horrible here!!! Cold, wet, and dreary, blech!! :p

Kim :)

Oh, Kim, what a great site! You always have these fabulous sites to pass on!

It says this about my problem:
-YELLOWING LEAVES This can be a sign of stress or even natural growth. Causes can be too much water or not enough water - too much fertilizer or not enough - or insect damage. Check for insects and reverse whatever else you are doing or not doing

Hmmm.....I do fertilize once every 10 days or so, maybe I will cut that out for those guys for a while. Definately not insect damage tho. They get watered 2 times a week with the sprinkler system, then hand-watered if needed. Maybe I will cut back on the hand-watering too and see what happens.

Thank you!:sunny: :sunny:

The leaves on my hibiscus started to turn yellow after so I was just pulling those leaves off, then around a month or so later, the leaves were starting to have these bumps on them and they started to spread, along with little bugs on the stems. I had to pull the tree out...so keep checking your tree making sure that this doesn't happen to your tree, and so if there are bugs on that plant, they don't go on the others.

Can't help, I wish I had your problem though. I can't get one to survive a season.
Kim does come up with the best sites.

It's possible your killing it with kindness. Hibiscus here in Florida really need little care, they are pretty hardy. They don't "winterize". The leaves will fall after a good frost, but usually come back without a problem. Couldn't hurt to check under the leaves for bugs.

I have about 20 of them including some trees I did myself and after they are established, I do nothing to them.
