It's a hard and sometimes lonely road when it comes to losing weight.
We all have our reasons whether they are short term like fitting on a ride or long term like avoiding diabetes. I thought it would be great to make a thread where we could all discuss the struggle, give support and share ideas/recipes!

I'm Nikki! Currently I'm a size 16. I lost 15 lbs while pregnant due to gestational diabetes and I'm hoping to lose 30 more. My goal is to be in a size 14 by the time I visit WW of HP:wizard:. I'm currently following a sugar free low carb diet. It sucks sometimes but I know it will work. I'm also doing the INSANITY tapes.

Here's how I've lost 30 pounds since January. First off, increase your activity. Even if it's just walking. I try to get at least 30-45minutes per walk 4-5 times a week. It's an excellent chance to listen to the Disboard podcasts.

Try to figure out how much you are overeating at meals. For example, at dinner take only half as much of the food you normally eat. Eat it slowly and wait about about 10-15 minutes. if your're still hungry add a bit more. I found out I was overeating at dinner by 30-50% beyond what I require to satisfy my hunger. My dietitian told me to make sure I'm satisfied after a meal.

Up the protein. Your body thinks it's fuller longer if you eat protein instead of the equivalent portion of carbohydrates (which it looks like you're doing). For snacks I've been eating various Atkins protein bars or any bar that has at least 10 grams of protein per about 180-200 calories. Nuts are good, in moderation. String cheese that has about 60 calories a stick. Hard boiled eggs. The denser the food the better.

I eat fruit if I want something sweet. Just eating fruit does nothing to satisfy my hunger. For me it just does work. I eat all the veges I want.

For breakfast I drink an Atkins protein drink. 160 calories and 15 grams of protein. I'm not vary hungry in the mornings so having that around 9am lasts me to 11:30-12 for lunch. For lunch I have a wrap with lunch meant or leftover meat from dinner. The wraps are about 90 calories with 9 grams of protein. Rarely a normal sandwich. Salads are good.

But, I have not stopped eating any specific food though I rarely have cake, cookies, ice cream, chips, etc. And never drink soda. Even diet (I hate diet soda).

I never go hungry. If you do it too often you're doomed to failure. My doctor and dietitian have reinforced this. This must be what it's like to be an alcoholic. I don't look at it long term. It's an hour to hour, day to day thing until my new eating habits are well ingrained.

My goal is to be able to fit on the coasters at IoA and US.

Believe me, you do not even want to bring up the subject of weight around these parts right now... Anyone seen to be saying anything positive about weight loss seems to instantly be seen as anti-fat, and therefore hateful to all over-weight people :confused3

I would recommend finding the W.I.S.H section on the main site, and finding like-minded people to discuss your objectives with there. I am currently in the process of losing weight myself, and there are many like-minded people on the dis-boards with the same goal (I use the UK community thread to target my progress).

Good luck with your loss! :thumbsup2

I'm in the same position but I want to lose because in 4 months will be my big birthday or as a friend puts it "your 20 year celebration of your 30th birthday", then in November we're going to US/IOA to celebrate and I want to lose at least 20 lbs. by then :)

Last year, I lost 14 lbs by doing WW but then I gained most back so now I want to try something else. I'm a size 14/16 and weigh about 160 lbs and I'm short! I'll go over to the WISH board but maybe we can do a WWoHP Losers thread :lmao:

Good luck in your quest!

My husband successfully lost a whole bunch of weight on the South Beach Diet - but it's not for everyone. There's a lot of food prep involved, meat is expensive, and some people get veerrry cranky without enough fat in their diet. ;)

On the other hand "good carb/low fat" eating has been a real life-saver for my hypoglycemic son. Leveled his blood sugar right out! :thumbsup2

Here's a question for everyone: HOW do you know what size you are??? I'm an average weight - about 5'7'' and 130, but my jeans say size 14. Does that mean I'm a size 14? How come the size 14 models I see in magazines look so much bigger than me?

HI Dollyrar and Carmiedog!

I'm aware of the WISH and other threads I just thought it would be nice to start a thread here for US visitors who's goal is HP or Universal.
Nothing but love  and support here:cheer2:.

The way the forums are set up, anything that applies to another forum just gets moved to that forum. For instance, a post put on the budget board about finding a doctor gets moved to the community board or a post about hotel rates gets moved to the resort boards. Any posts about weight loss help will get moved to the W.I.S.H. board or will be closed here. So this thread will will be closed here. Feel free to post to the WISH forum at http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=59 They have lots of tips and encouragement on that forum. Good Luck! I need to lose some weight too
