We are wondering how the water temperature is at Castaway Cay with the cold spell that's recently past through... we have the Catamaran Snorkel Tour booked for 1st thing in the morning. We also have the Jet skis booked for the afternoon.

What should we do?

We need to decide by 3 days before our 1/31/09 cruise!

Thanks!

Hi we are just back from the 1/24 cruise. The water at Castaway Cay was a little chilly. The air that morning was only 66 but warmed up to about 75 by mid day. We went kayaking before lunch but didn't really get wet, just a little splashed. We went snorkeling in the afternoon, about 1:30 - 2:00 ish and only lasted about 30 minutes because we were all freezing. It was really pretty to snorkel and there were plenty of people in the water doing activities. Also just to let you know the jet ski rental is not on your own but you are actually doing a tour. Let me know if you have any other questions. We had a great time.

Stef

We were at Castaway Cay on 1/19 and if I remember correctly, I think the water was right around 75 degrees. Don't think the recent few days of cold weather would have effected it too much as it takes a LOT to change ocean temperatures.

Thanks for the replys!

Well, we cancelled our afternoon jet ski excursion (2 of our group of 4 had just done that), and we kept the morning Catamaran snorkel tour...

I would have liked to have moved it to the afternoon, but nothing is available at this time. Maybe we'll check when we get on board.

On the other hand, if the air temperature is cooler than the water temp in the morning, we'll probably enjoy getting in!

Only four more days and we're flying outa cold Wisconsin! Woo Hoo! :cool1:

I'm fully prepared to freeze my butt off on the jet ski's at 11am! :cool1:

Hi, well we have since decided to cancel all of our CC excursions.
There is a cold front coming in to the Bahamas and it is only going to be 63 degrees for a high this Sat. Feb. 1st!
We are going to enjoy the littler things to do... like bicycling, having a cold drink on the beach, and maybe snorkeling the adult lagoon if the weather allows.
Plus... just read there is an observation tower that you can ride your bike to! Should be fun! :cool1:

Wussy!:rotfl2:

Better pack your warm clothes for at least Saturday! We should be good by Sunday though!

Be sure to rent a bike and not try to walk to it because it's a long haul. My DH got the bright idea to walk there since we were at Serenity Bay but when he decided to do this it was 2:30pm and our kids were at the club which closed at 3pm and I had to run back and try to catch the tram back to the other side of the island.

could you tell me where to look for information on getting the weather report at CC? we are on the Magic 4 day right behind you and I don't want to freeze my wussy buns off!::yes::

I was on the 1/24 cruise and Castaway Cay was a little disappointing bc of the high winds. (They canceled our parasailing excursion.) We did the bike ride though and that was a lot of fun. Got some great pictures from the lookout tower, which I didn't even know existed before last Friday.

Water was a bit chilly, but being from PA, it was fine after about 2 minutes.

Booked another for next January though...got to get that parasailing done! :)

Gotta agree about the water temp. Being from Michigan, I didn't have any problem with it. High winds cancelled just about everything else though, even Castaway Ray's stingray adventure. Still had a good time snorkeling though. The water cleared the deeper you got.

We just got off on Saturday and it was cooooooold at CC. They cancelled the parasailing, jet skis, kayaking, etc. due to rough water. St. Thomas was lovely and warm though!

Sorry to highjack this thread, but could you recent cruisers please verify that they no longer give out bandanas on Pirate night? If that's the case, do you think they just ran out, or do you think it's a permanent change? Thank you!

Luv2Travel, I was on the 1-24-09 Western and we did get bandanas on Pirate night, but they were different than the past they were red instead of black and about have the size. Hope that helps.

Oh Duh! I've highjacked the wrong thread!! I was reading a 3 night trip report from the Wonder before this thread and got confused (I've read that they no longer hand out bandanas on the Wonder). :sad2: Sorry.

But thanks tw2123 for the reply anyway!! :flower3:
