or Newport and SE RI area.... what are your favorite restaurants? Not fancy just good, especially seafood eateries. We plan on the Black Pearl in Newport and Constantine's in Niantic, Angie's Pizza in Mystic, but any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Lois

Abbott's!

Unfortunately can't remember exactly where it is or even if it exists anymore.

I used to love eating the lobster there and sitting by the waters edge! YUM!

Maybe someone else can fill you in.

(It is really hard to find though... lol. :) )

I'm a little too much to the southwestern end of southeast CT to give you any other good recommendations.)

You can try The Daniel Packer Inn in Mystic. Its just down the road from downtown Mystic along the water (near Mystic Pizza). The main dining area is a little more formal, but downstairs there's dining in the pub. I know a waitress there and she tells me eveerything is fresh because they do not have freezers. I have eaten there a few times and the food is delicious. This inn has been around since the 1700's.

if you're going to be anywhere around the casino area, the Mohegan Sun has a great buffet. Can't remember what it's called, but it's on the second floor in the newer section. We've gone for brunch and dinner and loved it each time. Not the usual buffet style in my opinion - scallops, shrimp, beef tips/with mushrooms, etc. It's always different though - keep missing the lobster bisque:mad:

Abbotts is amazing! Well worth the trip to Noank!

Also, we love two wonderful (but very different) pizza places in New London - Ocean Pizza and The Recovery Room.

We spent many summers working at the Oneill Theater Center in Waterford. In a lot of ways, we still consider it our summer home.

I love Brick Alley Pub in Newport. I have NEVER had a bad meal there!!!

In Narragansett there is George's of Galilee

When you come up here, be sure you try a Del's Lemonade & bring home a bottle of Autocrat coffee syrup!

WOW - Reading the responses from all over the country, I guess SE CT is really becoming a tourist area that reaches beyond the northeastern US. I can not decide if this is good or bad. Anyway, I have to vote for Abbotts as well. we love it there. I just said to DW that we must go down there soon. Even the kids liked it. they loved watching all of the boats. Maybe we will do this on Saturday.

If you want a steak, try the Steak Loft in Mystic, right off I-95 near the Aquarium. It has been there forever and my cousin and her daughter both work there.

You see now I am not a fan of the Steak Loft. Way to many people and the steaks are not that great. It is like they by the low end steaks. If you have a place at home you really like skip this one.

For seafood Go Fish in Mystic is great, medium scale of prices and is next to the Aquarium.

Georges is good in Narragansett, and so is Pancho O'Malleys(mexican american). Aunt Carries at the end of Point Judith (too in Narragansett) is a landmark that is a takeout/sitdown seafood place that is right on the beach and is cool. Long lines but worth it. Was featured on TV food channel as a segement in one of the shows.

Never been to Abbots but had friends who work there and said it was good.

Thank you all for the great suggestions!! We lived in the area for 18 years when DH was in the Navy there and enjoy visiting every few years.

Have a great day!

Well we did it. We went to Abbotts yesterday for lunch and it was GREAT. We hadn't been there in two years, even though it is only an hour away. We forgot how great it is. DW and I had the Lobster Feast which included clam chowder, shrimp, clams, mussels and a GREAT lobster. It was $30, not bad for all that you get. We had a on-line coupon for an extra free chowder (thanks Julia). The only thing wrong was that I should have gotten a bigger lobster. They give you 1 1/8 LB one, but it was sooo good I could have eaten more. The kids (DS8, DS7) had grilled cheese and watched the boats. Afterward we had ice cream they serve there. It was very good, only thing is that they only serve vanilla. But they have an assortment of toppings. DW and I loved it.

Also, after our lunch we stopped in Groton to see the Nautilus Museum. It was great. I highly recommend it. The kids loved it too. We spent about an hour and a half. You tour the sub with a talking wand that tells you about the ship as you pass through different portions of it. There are also displays of the history of subs. Very interesting. The best part is it is FREE. I did not know it was so interesting. Definitely check it out if you are ever in the area. Jay
