I passed through Vaughan Mills this week and it appears the Disney Store has also taken over the toy store that was next door and are expanding into that space as well. Does anyone have a rough idea when that location will be opening again? Thank-you! :)

Wait, its closed again? Is it returning to a regular TDS or staying a outlet?

I called a while back about the renos and was told that it will open at the beginning of Sept.

I work five minutes from the mall. I go for that store all the time. What can I say I need my Disney fix. I talked to a manager last time I was in there when they were trying to get rid of merchanise at crazy SALE prices. Anyway, he said they are taking over that old toy store next door and expanding it. They are also making it one of the new "interactive" stores. He wouldn't give me too much detail on that bit but what I could get was there are going to be screens or something that allow you to interact throughout the store. (whether it is with characters or just store stuff I dunno). He said it is going to be something really different and the drawings of it look amazing. So anyway he said if all goes well it should open in late Aug, early Sept. I'll keep you posted. I go there all the time during my lunch break. When I see it open, I'll post.

I think the sign yesterday said either the 25th or 28, can't remember what. It also said the first 200 people on one of those days?, get a free gift!

I ask them on their FB page and this is the reply:
We will hold the grand opening of the Vaughan Mills Disney Store on August 28, 2010. Come early. There will be a free gift to the first 200 guests.

I was at Vaughan Mills today and the Disney Store is open. It's exactly like it was before, just expanded into the store beside. There's no extra "interactivity" or decorations.

There were the same old sales ... Disney "Barbies" 2 for $25, kids t-shirts $7, adult t-shirts $12. I'm sure they'll have extra sales for their official re-opening.

WHAT?????? are you sure???
Oh so I don't need to make the special trip for the grand re-opening then???
I was so look forward to it, I thought it is the new format Disney Store :(

Yup ... it looks EXACTLY the same. If you hadn't been there in a couple months, you wouldn't have even known they expanded. Same stripped down look ... even the previous location in the mall was more "Disney". Oh, and they only have a regular TV playing behind the cashiers. A wasted opportunity! :sad2:

That's so dissapointing to hear! I was a one of the orginal CM of the Disney Stores when they were first brought to Canada. I was part of the opening team of Eaton Center, Yorkdale. and Square One. At that time they were a little piece of Disney away from the parks and provided you with a moment to forget you were in Toronto and not on holidays! We had great Merchandise like our Disney art collections and jewellery and watches, most of it found only in the stores or parks. We had huge profits and huge lines! Now it is nothing more then a mini disney toys r us and there really is nothing exciting about them! It's obvisously not working well for them. I do not know what thier proft amounts are any more, but They rarely seem that busy anymore.:confused3

I have many team members still with me at Square One that opened that store too and although things have changed, since Disney took over it has greatly improved. We may not sell the collectibles that they use to sell, but those items sat for very long periods of time before even selling.

As for the Vaughan Store, this is an outlet and "yes" it really isn't anything exciting but the company is not going to invest lots of $$$ into an outlet. There is new store openings next year that will be the Imagination Park design, and they will blow your mind. There will also, (hopefully) be at least two stores re-designed to this store design too. Once you see these new stores it will be like having that little bit of WDW in Canada. We are all very excited and there is only a little more time to wait before we get our very own.:cool1:

And before anyone asks, I cannot say where we will be opening new stores next year, or who will be re-designed until it is offical.:sad1: sorry!!

When I do know though, I will let everyone know ASAP. We love all you hardcore Disney addicts who appreciate the characters and the product as much as we do. This new design was created for all of you to enjoy:thumbsup2

That sounds promising. I hope they can follow through on that and bring a little of the magic back to the north and hopefully offer better quality merchandise at the same time!

So are the Disney stores back in Disney's hands, or are they still run by Children's Place?

That was the downfall of the chain... We used to buy so much fantastic stuff at the stores when we couldn't make it to the parks but needed a fix.

Not so much lately...

On May 1st 2008, TDS went back to being run by TWDC. It took about a year to completely change the product over to TWDC purchases, but we are now 100% TWDC. The product quality is MUCH better than TCP. We has soooooo many complaints about that product.

Unfortunately, we can't please everyone. There is product we dont carry anymore that the occasional Guest will ask for, but when we carry it in the store it has to be deeply discounted inorder to move (Adult clothing for example).
