Anyone in Illinois switching from Comed to save money?

I keep getting solicitations from companies that can supply electricity instead of using Comed. Anyone doing this? Are the savings worth it?

I looked into it and choose not to switch. I suggest you do some reach on the Citizen's Utility Board website before you make any decisions. As much as I hate ComEd--I know what I am getting and the cost. With the "other" providers I am still getting the ComEd service lines and distribution costs, but I am then getting mystery pricing on a per watt basis.

I haven't gotten the calls for electricity but we get them all the time trying to get us to leave NICOR for our gas but we haven't switched.

You are absolutely correct, and when we lived "in-town" (we have lived in multiple houses in Naperville over the years) we had City of Naperville power.

Currently we live on an acre in unincorporated and have ComEd for power, of course our property tax bill is about 1/2 of what we would pay as a city resident so I am not complaining. We still have Naperville water, we pay a slightly higher rate. Our subdivision has sidewalks, but no street lights, we have City of Naperville for fire protection, but the sheriffs office for police, we do pay taxes for park district service, but do not pay nor have access to library services (unless we pay a separate usage fee). Also we contract independently for trash removal. Other than our "funny" address, there is little difference between my house and the one that is about 1 mile away in incorporated Naperville (except their tax bill is twice mine); shockingly even our home values are nearly the same.

I have to say that I didn't look into it. However when I was reading the letter that came in the mail from another provider I think I recall that the rates somehow fluctuated or at least that was the idea I came away with so it didn't sound like a switch to me. Again I didn't do any research so it is possible that I am wrong. However from the outset it didn't appear to be good idea.

We have deregulated power in PA. I did some research and found a company with a 1 year fixed rate and no sign up/cancellation fee. It is cheaper per kilowatt hour than Peco and got a discount for signing up online. Just beware the pyramid schemes.
