anyone in Atlanta?

I am in Atlanta but as the other poster pointed out Metro Atlanta is huge with over a dozen school systems in the Metro area. As a state, GA has a pretty dismal record with special ed and educational outcomes. Less than 50 percent of high school students with IEPs earn a high school diploma. This Response to Intervention is a nightmare and has made getting services very difficult.

All that said, your experience will depend greatly on your child's abilities. Where is your child now and where do you see him/her in the future?

I live south of Atlanta/Atlanta airport - Fayette County. We have one of the best school systems in Ga. The school my son goes to goes above and beyond the call of duty for their autistic children, in fact we have more and more children with autism transferring into our school. As for the Marcus Institute - let's just say I have nothing nice to say about them. It just depends on where you live. There are private schools for children with autism and those on the spectrum. There are more resources for those that live north of Atlanta than for those that live south of Atlanta. HTH.

I live in Atlanta and teach students with Severe and Profound Intellectual Disabilities.
Let us know what area you are coming to. We have great resources and some fab teachers.

I also have a son that was DX with PDD-NOS (amongst other things) at an early age and we have great therapists and psych.
Please let me know if I can help you in any way

I'm in North Fulton County, and not entirely pleased with the services for my 9yo son w/PDD-NOS. My experience in the public schools is that if the child is obviously disabled, they bend over backwards to help. If the child has more of a hidden disability (like autism), it's a real struggle. The school has done nothing to determine our child's needs, and we had to engage an advocate to help us force them to provide the legally required services he's entitled to. We're fortunate that his special ed teacher is an "angel"...
