Hi all! My dd10 just qualified for the Junior Olympics

, which will be held in New Orleans this summer. We are very excited for her.
We've known this was a strong possibility, and all along we've been planning to take the whole family on this trip. We have some touristy activities we would like to do (we have recommendations on a specific swamp tour, a space center place, and the older one will enjoy a ghost tour).
But, to throw a glitch in the plans (a good glitch), my dd qualified in all 12 events, which means her days will be spent at the convention center, with very little family time to explore. I didn't expect this to happen, and thought we'd have some gaps in our competition days. As long as we have time to do the swamp tour for her, she'll be happy.
But the problem lies now with what to do with one parent and the three boys during the days. Yes, our hotel (or house if we rent one) will have a pool, but that will get old for 5 days. For those of you who live here, can you recommend anything local and not-too-expensive for kids. I'm not necessarily looking for touristy things for them, but maybe a nice park or other activity places..even places like a Chuck E Cheese. We just need to know if there are things one parent can do with the kids while the other of us is at the competition with dd. There is no way the boys will sit through 5 days of competition, 9-7!! We need to quickly make a decision as to whether this will be a family trip or a mother/daughter trip. The trip is over ds5's birthday, though, and I don't like the idea of not being with him on his special day
And on another note...we're staying somewhere close to the convention center. We'll have a car if we all go. Is there a grocery store within a short drive? We saw little convenience stores when we visited briefly last year, but those don't have the selection or prices we look for! I'd like to be able to pick up breakfast and lunch items to save on the cost a bit. Maybe even a Walmart type place???
Thanks for any advice which will help us with this decision!
