Anyone heard of/use NuVet Plus vitamin supplements for their dog or cat?

We just got a new chocolate Labrador puppy! He is a real cutie, and is learning "the ropes" quickly.

His name is "Remus" - after Remus Lupin in Harry Potter!

Anyway, the breeders recommended this NuVet Plus vitamin supplement for him. You have to order it online or over the phone - it is not available in stores. And it is pretty pricey - 90 tabs for $55!

This is their website: www.nuvet.com

Anyone have any experience with this?

I've never given any of my puppies vitamin supplements. I'd be suspect. ;)

This seems "out there"
the majority of dogs and cats are not receiving a complete, healthy diet and many become ill and die prematurely.

Yeah, that's what I thought too.

Now, for the most part, I think our breeder is pretty good. Friendly, let us see the pups as much as we wanted, have both mom and dad on-site, sound pedigrees, breeding for 12 years, etc.

But what bothered me is that she gave us a letter that says "the health guarantee is dependent on continuing the NuVet supplements."

And this NuVet gives a 15% discount if you do the "Auto-Plan" - they ship (and bill) you a regular supply of the stuff.

We will discuss this with our vet at our visit on Monday, but just wondered if anyone else has heard of this.

I think we may have gotten our puppy from the same breeder 3 years ago in Northern PA. It was also stated to us that the health guarnatee was dependent on using the Nuvet supplement. If you look up the NuVet supplement you will see that the breeder gets a percentage of money for all orders that their puppy buyers purchase. I cancelled my order and stopped giving it to my dog and he's perfectly healthy. Let me guess the breeder also has certain food they want you to purchase which can only be done on line. Flint River Ranch. This product is also another where the breeder gets a percentage of money from the sale of the food to their puppy buyers that's why you can only buy it on line or by phone.

diesel, I don't think it was the exact same breeder, since we went to a place in Oelwein, Iowa. But I am sure a lot of breeders are using this promotion.

Yes, when we called the NuVet number, they asked us for the "order code", and when I gave it to her, she immediately pulled up the name and address of the breeder that will get the "credit" for this sale.

Our breeder didn't recommend any online dog food - just Purina One, which paid for the introductory packet we got.
