Anyone hear about Hawaii Resort being opened by Disney VC.

Will you visit DVC in Hawaii when it opens?

  • Yes, definetely Mahalo very much.

  • No way, Mr. McGarrett

  • Aloha, only if there is a cruise included.

  • Chilax, I can't decide yet.

Hi All,
Has anyone heard about a new resort being opened on Oahu in Hawaii on the Leeward side of the island? I was wondering if anyone has any inside info on what it's going to be like and are they going to start running cruises out of the harbor there. Any info would be great. Thanks for answering.

There is not a lot of information about the new resort. It has one solid picture accomanied by a lot of rumor. There is a small peice on Port Disney, an idea that was getting some push from Eisner when he was CEO. The original was supposed to be on the Cali Coast where the Queen Mary 2 resides as Disney Bought the port and surrounding land, and this ideaseems to have new life with the cruise dock next to the new spot on Oahu. That would be sweet! A Hawaiian Disney Cruise followed by a stay at a Disney resort in Hawaii! Sweet mother Mary I have come home!!!

There is a lot more information on this in certain threads in the DVC area of Disboards!

The hotel itself is will be in the Ko'Olina area and will be mixed use with DVC villas and regular hotel rooms. There was an official announcement a couple months back.

I voted that I won't stay there. We're retired military and the Hale Koa is a military hotel (like Shades of Green) right next to the Hilton Hawaiian Viallage on Waikiki beach. My DH wants to stay at the Hilton some time because he thinks it looks so nice, so I suppose we'll do that, but not for the whole trip. I'd rather have more days in Hawaii by staying at a more affordable hotel. I like Disney World because it's fun, but so far I'm not convinced that a Disney resort in Hawai'i would be a destination in and of itself and therefore worth whatever amount it will cost -- but I do have no doubt it will be expensive.

I don't know...I understand your position on WDW...but I think that if Disney is going to put that much capitol down on a resort in Hawaii...I feel it will be pretty amazing when completed.

I will definitely visit, not sure if I would stay there except maybe on points. I can't wait til its done though. It should be pretty sweet. :thumbsup2

DH and I are definitely looking forward to staying there when it opens...especially if it's as beautiful as the concept drawing!! :yay:

I guess I should never say never. Maybe when we are a little older and don't feel like bouncing around at WDW. Then maybe we will try it out. :thumbsup2

I have never been to Oahu, but i have been to Maui...and believe me, I will never put off a trip to Hawaii!

I don't really think it matters all that much how many people will visit once or sporadically, that is definitely a secondary issue. The issue from DVD's standpoint is selling it, plain and simple. Esp given they'll be competing with Wyndham, Hilton, and Marriott for Oahu plus others for the other islands. Marriott will be right next door as a direct comparison and will get a lot more potential buyers through unless DVD changes their marketing strategies. I don't think they will be able to sell it adequately by marketing only to existing members and those who tour at WDW or DL.

So this will be a regular DVC resort? Do you know what the projected opening time is? Any other info or direction you can point I would appreciate. We are very interested in going in 2009 and I wasn't sure if this would even be available that soon.

Thanks
Donna

It's been a month or two now, but I think the announcement said it will be approx. 800 or 850 units - and of that about 1/2 will be DVC! It is not scheduled to open until 2011 though - so you're out of luck for 2009! I think it looked like it could almost be a true self contained resort. There were several threads about it right after the announcement that you might find interesting if you can find them...

Thanks for the information. I thought I remembered reading this but couldn't find any dates. I guess I will have to look into other options for 2009.
