I'm not sure I actually have a question here but it looks like my PHL to MCO leg on SouthWest will open in Feb but the return flight won't come out until later. I suppose I'll have to book the first leg, if the price is decent, then wait to book the second. Has anyone done this and then gotten the shaft when the return flight was released?

Given that this is southwest this isn't a big deal. Southwest doesn't charge more for one way flights over round trip flights. So I guess the only issue would be if you don't like the price coming back would you want to not take the trip at all. Otherwise you should be fine.

It would mean you have two confirmation numbers to keep track of but that isn't hard to manage.

I always book o/w . If it doesn't work out just cancel (no charge) and rebook what you like.

Yep and it's been fine. I also always book my Southwest flights one way. Easier to change them if needed.

Pricing for domestic flights is usually the same for all airlines; a round trip price is the same as booking two one way tickets. For international flights, it's just the opposite.

I like one ways on SWA anyway..... just easier to rebook if prices change, etc.

Yep, I do it all the time. Right now I am waiting for a Return flight from MCO to PHL to open for 8/8/15. It should open tomorrow since they are booking up to the 8/7. I plan to buy my return flight before my arrival. That is how I do it now. Coming back on a Saturday can sometimes be hit or miss prices. So have no fear, it's really better to book one-way flights in case of price changes. I expected airfare to be cheaper this year due to lower fuel costs, but it really looks about the same. :confused3

From what I can tell, you won't be able to book the second leg for another 2 months...

We are currently accepting air reservations through August 7, 2015. On February 26, 2015, we will open our schedule for sale through October 30, 2015. This date is subject to change! Please check back frequently.

I am booking my SWA trip in two parts this time. I finally found a decent price on the first leg of the trip, so I booked it. Now I am waiting and hoping that prices for the return will go down also.

Doing it for this trip. Booked our trip down and will book the return in February when released.

I always book our trips "one way". That way if I want to change something on one leg, I don't have to worry about what happens with the other leg. This last trip, I changed the airport that we flew home from. I love having this option.
