I'm anxious to hear about this place. DH and I are getting a bit more adventurous with our tastebuds and I'm wondering how the sushi is. What would you recommend for someone that isn't a huge seafood fan? Are the California rolls supposed to not have a lot of "meat" in them?

Most any sushi menu will have some "veggie" selections if you are a first timer. When it was the Matsa No Ma Lounge we had very good sushi there.

I have had the sushi at the lounge and it was good. California roll with usually have some green onion, avacado and crab meat (cooked). Shrimp will usually be cooked in sushi either in a roll (maki) or nigiri (formed rice with the "stuff" on top). I would avoid roe (fish eggs) early in your sushi experience and there are some of the fish that I don't care for much (mackerel for example and I'm not too keen on squid and octopus). i would go with some of the milder types including tuna, salmon and shrimp (if you like shrimp).

Be sure to ask the server for advice. They can tell you about what would have a less pronounced taste and keep from blowing you out of the water!

BTW, the sushi at California grill is also very good and I like Wolfgang Pucks too.

We just ate there last week and the sushi menu is HUGE. Lots of choices that don't involve raw fish or seafood. We had the sampler and the fish was very fresh and very delicious. It might be a good choice to start out because it is a relatively small serving (8 pieces) and includes both a few pieces with raw fish (tuna and yellowtail, as I recall) as well as shrimp nigiri and California Roll (with cooked crab). You'll enjoy it! And beware: if you like it, sushi can quickly become an addictive and expensive culinary habit.

I'm definitely excited to try it. I had a few pieces of sushi in Hawaii that I think was tuna and I enjoyed it. Do you think this is a good choice to pay OOP instead of using a TS credit from the DDP?

I do not do sushi, but have dined there with friends who do and we had another option, which we enjoyed. They said that the sushi was quite good...of course sitting opposite DH and I who could barely watch while they eat it, probably was a downer... LOLOLOL

If you're brave, I posted pics of the sushi I ordered in my trip report (Day 4). It's not for the first timer, but it was good. They had a really nice selection compared to what they used to have at Matsu No Ma Lounge.

California Roll is what I typically suggest to sushi newbies. Well, and veggie rolls, too.

moving from the review board to the main dining board for more responses.

Went there in January - Had the Dynamite roll. This was fantastic!!! The textures and flavors were amazing. I would order it again in a heartbeat.

My husband's non-shushi dinner, not so good. He had the chicken and chinese vegatables. This was not at all interesting or very good. The vegetables were not a mixed vegie that you would expect, but a couple of stand alone pieces. Not very good.

We had some great sushi rolls the night we were there. I honestly don't recall what we wound up with as we love sushi and eat it 3 times a week or so for lunch... I too would suggest a california roll, or perhaps a chicken or shrimp tempura roll for a newbie.

Is there a counter where you can walk up and eat some sushi without making ADR's for this restaurant. I know my husband will want some sushi, but I won't eat anything here, so we don't want to take a table, just a quick bite.

Do you happen to know what page exactly the sushi pics are on? I love sushi! mmmmm! thanks!
