Anyone have success with Aulani Room Requests?

Curious to hear of any success stories with Aulani room requests.

I've tried room requests at several other DVC resorts, and have never had much success.

We have a 2BR Ocean View booked second week of June. Looking at a resort map on the Aulani room thread, it appears that about half of the ocean view rooms also have a view of the pool area.

I've put in a request for 1) facing pool and 2) upper levels.

Keeping fingers crossed that I'll get at least one of the two requests will come through.

Been to Aulani twice, both times during February. First trip we booked an ocean view. Had no problem. It was high up, beautiful views and yes, view of pool as well. Second trip....not so good. Booked the same, ocean view but when taken to our room it was more of a parking lot view and if you turn your head far to the right, you can see the ocean. Totally opposite side than where we were last year. Even the man helping with the luggage said it wasn't considered an ocean view room. When I called the front desk, however, they were insisting it was. They were taken back a little when I told him when the man with the luggage said. I insisted on a room change, told them this is not what I booked and not what I used my DVC points for. Room change was better, ocean view (pool view also) but not as high up. Oh, and I also booked the second trip requesting an "unobstructed ocean view" after it was suggested by a friend who went. A request, I was told, it just that..a request and is not a guarantee. But, in my case, I used a specific amount of points for a specific room (view) which cost more points so I was going not going to stay in that other room.

We just returned a week ago and were very pleased with the room we had. We had reserved an island garden view, and I put in a request for a room on an upper floor that overlooked the Starlite Hui. We were given the 14th floor which gave us not only an island garden view right in the middle of where the Starlite Hui and movie on the lawn was held, but because we were so high up we have a beautiful view of the ocean AND the marina!

If I can ever figure out how to post pictures I will let you see what my view looked like :)

Good luck!

While I haven't had experience with Aulani specifically yet I have had experiences with other resorts that will consider a room an OV if you can even GLIMPSE the ocean. Ocean FRONT is yet another booking category sometimes at some resorts - especially in Waikiki. Booking an OV in Waikiki is even more limiting as it's a city and most of the buildings are right on top of one another. Most OV rooms are on the sides of the buildings which also include views of neighboring hotels and then there are the Ocean FRONT rooms that are right on the beach. Booking OV is sort of like booking a Savannah view at AKV - not all savannahs are created equal in my book. Perhaps if they get enough complaints over the views at Aulani they will change some of the OV room categories to be IV or something.:confused3

We have booked an IV studio at Aulani this time and I requested to be in the long wing of the Ewa building overlooking the Starlit Hui lawn and on the highest floor available. Hopefully that combo will help us avoid having the parking structures figure in too much in the view. I will probably not do online check-in so I can talk to someone about our room location at check-in before we accept it...

Ask for highest floor possible pool view toward the ocean. See what happens. Enjoy your stay

Thank you. I was wondering if it could be done online. I guess I will call. How far in advance have others done their requests?

I don't really think it matters so much how far in advance you make the request. You can do it when you first book your reservation or wait until a few days before you arrive.

I just put in our room request today for our stay in July. We are not DVC, but were able to book 2-2 BDR Villas with Island View for my family (13 of us...SIL included) with my SIL's CM discount.
I requested Ewa Building, High floor...rooms ending in 75 and 81...and for our rooms to be on the same floor.
What do you think the likelihood is they will honor the request since we received a decent discount?
Here's hoping we all get our requests... mx xm.

Ours did. I'm typing this from room 1678. Top floor with a gorgeous ocean view! It's a lot of it is luck, but I think you have better than a 50/50 chance of getting your request given you paid for an ocean view.

We were there last month. I didn't put in a room request, but we were booked ocean view. We ended up overlooking the adult pool area - actually our room was right above the spa. We looked out over the JW Marriott parking ramp to see our ocean view.

We visited the 1BR to check it out. CM said if you are booked in ocean view to request 7th floor and up overlooking pool.

Yes! I called MS to put in a room request a month or so before our trip last October. I requested a high floor as well as a room ending in xx71, xx75, or xx81 (I think those are the right IV room numbers with a partial OV). We were in 1575, so it was perfect! It is definitely not a guarantee but can't hurt to ask!

For those who made a request(s) prior to arrival, was there any indication anywhere of your requests?
How do we know that MS made the proper requests we wanted?
Maybe on the dvcmember website or somewhere else?

I called MS last week and made my requests for my upcoming trip and can't find any record of my requests.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
CPC

For my past room location requests there was never anything listed either on the website or anywhere that I could see, but when I confirmed with MS CM's by phone they had the requests in their records and acknowledged them to me.

Then when I arrived at the resorts.... on the 4 DVC trips (once at VWL, once at VGC, and 2x's at Aulani) when I had a room request I again confirmed the requests with CM's upon check in.

If you are nervous about your request not having been added to your reservation you can always call MS and have them make sure it is on the reservation.
