I got it with the new van. It comes with the 1st year subscription free. I think it is so neat. I may keep it after the 1st year, I really like how I can just touch a button, and report an emergency. AAA is good, but they can't compare to this.

I like the hands-free phone option they now have. Basically it is a cell phone, you can call out, speak the number, or pre-programmed name, and never take your hands off the wheel. People can call into your car also. GREAT for when I leave my cell phone at home, and DH needs to reach me. The cell blocks of minutes like a phone-card. This is free for 30 days.

Oh, I love my new car!

On my last 2 vehicles but only keep the basic after the first free year.

I am not too impressed with the phone...it makes me repeat things too often and I am told I sound far away and it's too pricey, but the emergency service is good to have. Enjoy!

We have it and I love it for the safety it provides.

We also use the phone. Good luck trying to get it to recognize the number "2" :teeth:

LOL! I have already programmed my home number. By the time I was finished, I was screaming out the numbers.

how much is it to keep the service after hte first year??

Not sure on the price yet. I do know it is much higher than a membership to AAA.

Do not be afraid to pony up the $200 for a year. I have AAA, but when I was sideswiped by a semi last year AAA would not have done me any good. And my cell phone was on the floor in front of the passenger seat covered with glass, because that mirror shattered that window. So I just punched the blue button and help was on the way (in fact 3 pumpers; they don't mess around when you say "I was hit by a semi"--plus they called DH for me). I was hoping I wasn't made into a commercial because DD#2 (then 9) and DS (then 6) were in the back seat SCREAMING.
I have also used it to diagnose my "check engine" light 2 different times--it was a loose gas cap--so much easier than going to a dealer or a gas station and paying for a computer hookup! They checked it out for me as I drove! And good to know that if I lock my keys in my car I'm taken care of. I won't get another vehicle unless it's a GM. In fact I looked at a Pontiac G6 last weekend--the dealership had about 50 of them, but not a one with onstar--seems with the sunroof the onstar won't be on them--I crossed it off of my list.

I used the check engine light diagnostic 3x on my envoy, and each time it was the sutpid gas cap...though- even if I had gone to the dealer, i would not have paid for the diagnostics because it was still under warranty.

My kids like the directions feature, they believe that their father should NEVER be without onstar.

I never used the handsfree phone deal because my phone was installed in my Envoy with hands free, and had much better sound quality than the onstar one.

If I buy another GM which I'm 100% positive I will, it will have onstar and the basic will be kept on it years after the subscription is free....

I love the commercials, thats what sold me on it.

I wish I had it on my Suburban back in 96, we had an aftermarket alarm installed and one of the "features" was when you started it, it would lock the doors...I can not tell you how many times i had to call AAA to come unlock my doors in the winter from running outside, opening the door reaching in to start the truck, only to shut the door JUST as I heard the locks engage...After the 5th time, the X put those magentic key holders under EACH wheel well...it was a :confused3 moment each time I did it lol onstar would have been quicker, cheaper, and he would have never known I did it lol

It is good to hear that it works well for some. My parents and I were in a HORRIBLE crash in 2001. A 6500 Chevy work truck hit us at 70mph while we were stopped at a red light......the driver fell asleep!

We were all badly injured and onstar did not work in my Dad's cadillac.........

I had it in my Suburban but the phone service made me repeat over and over and quite frankly, I remembered the horrible time my parent's had and never renewed when my year was up.

I have had On-Star for 8 years now. On-Star has improved throught time as anything that is computer technology does. I will not be without it. I drive 52 miles (104) roundtrip a day. I arrive at work at 7:00 am so I am on the road at 5:30 am. I love having it and have had to use it a couple of times. Thank goodness not for accidents, but since I had extended warranty and my gas gauge messed uo (it read that I had 1/2 tank of gas) I had none. They came and put gas in the vehicle and made sure I was on my way. Another time my battery died and I was on my way. Of course this was with the 1st vehicle a 2001 Chevy S-10 Blazer that I had almost 100,000 on when this happend. I drove that truck for 145,000 and then it was stolen, yes someone took my 3 yr old vehicle with 145,000 miles on it. It was burned to the ground, but that is another story (an ex son-in-law) So I went out and purchased a 2004 Trailblazer as my sister had one, my daughter and my mom all love theirs. I will always have on-Star. I wanted XM too but the truck I wanted only had On-Star and no x-m I told the dealer that was ok I would just add the XM and my hubby gave it to me for my birthday. It is the installed kind and is great as well. :flower:

DW has it on her Cadillac and she loves it. She just has the basic now and keeps some minutes in the phone as it seems to get through when her cell phone will not. I used it a couple of weeks ago cause the "Check Engine" light came on. They ran a diagnostic test right then while I drove and they could find a code, but suggested I check the gas cap as a loose one could set the light off. Yep, that was it. The gas cap was not screwed on tight. My next vehicle will have it.
