we were plannin may originally but are wanting to go sooner. i was thinkin march but how is it? when is spring break usually as i would be avoiding that. so probably early march im guessing. how is it with rides and crowds, BEFORE spring break? is there more of a chance of ride refurb closedowns? and hows the weather? thanks thanks!

We went the 7-14th of March this year.....this was the early stages of "Spring Break" & the crowds were pretty big. Easter was in April this year but the week prior & the week following Easter is very, VERY busy.

The Matterhorn was down during the week for brake testing, the King Arthur Carousel was down for a few days during our trip & the King Triton Carousel was down all but the first day. There will be some things down...but who knows what.

The weather was comfortable 70's & low 80's with the evenings cooling off quite a bit.

Next year Easter will again be in April, so early March won't be super bad....but always plan for crowds. Our best days were Weds & Thursdays. Go early, collect FP's, rest in the afternoon & come back in the evenings & you'll have a great time!!

Our very long trip report has a link below in my signature if interested.

Mid-March 2008 was cooler weather. Warm during the day and cool enough to need sweaters in the evening. It was cool enough that you could wear a long-sleeve t-shirt and not be overwhelming warm during the day. From what I can remember pretty much everything was open except for Small World which was going through it's major rehab at the time. But we were there for Spring Break season because Easter was the Sunday right after St. Patrick's Day that year. We left I think the Thursday before Easter and the park was packed that day!

Mid-March 2007 was even cooler weather than 2008. There were a few times when we got completely rained on! It rained so hard that we ended up having to go back to the hotel to change clothes. It was too cold and wet to stick around for the last few hours of the park being open. I do remember being bummed earlier in the week because there were a few rides that kept getting shut down by the weather, not to mention Fantasmic! and the fireworks.

That time of year can kind of be hit-or-miss. You could end up with a really great trip, with low crowds and wonderful weather. Or you could end up with cooler weather and high crowds from spring break..... or even a mix of both. As long as you go into the trip knowing that it could be busy and the weather could change on you mid-trip, and are prepared to go with the flow, you should be totally fine going then.

hmmm you said the crowds were pretty big. what was the wait time like on some of the rides? thanks so much for the info too!:D

we were there in the 2nd last week of march and the weather was great the usual 60min standby line for Space Mountain.

We were there on the Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Sat morning we rode Splash 4 times in a row without getting off as there was no one.

Sunday morning was overcast and a little rainy and there was hardly anyone in the park until it cleared up then it was quite busy.

Apparently the friday was super packed in the park we were walking back from Gardenwalk and i noticed the entry to the car park was blocked off and i asked it was super busy and the CM said it was crazy busy in the park.

There was a cheer leading comp on that weekend as well

The stand-by lines for Space & Splash varied from 30 mins (early morning) to 90+ minutes. We were able to almost walk onto POTC if we did it in the morning, by afternoon the line was 40+ mins (as was Haunted Mansion). We took advantage of the FP's for a lot of our riding. It is definately worth getting up early & being there at opening to hit the FP machines & rides with no FP's (like Fantasyland).
Over at DCA, GRR & Soarin' had stand-by lines 60 min+ but again, early is the key. We rode Toy Story Mania right at opening & still had a 30+ min wait (no FP for this one).

It's very doable, just plan ahead & know what are the most important rides you want to do & hit those early (or try during the parades or fireworks) or plan on staying til closing...crowds will start dispersing after the fireworks.

Hope that helps !! :yay:
