Someone I know recently gave birth and she and her twins have been diagnosed with toxoplasmosis. The doctors told her the babies were infected prenatally.

I've looked online for information and looks like there could be serious health and development implications.

Does anyone here have any personal knowledge/experience with this? I like to know more so I can help with support for the family.

Toxoplasmosis is the disease that you are warned about when you are pregnant and you are not to clean the litter box. Have you ever heard this? Most doctors will usually remind their pregnent patients of this rule.

My DH has had both tomoplasmosis and leptospirosis. Very similar, I believe because his symptoms were much the same with both.

They told him that his mother probably passed it to him when she was pregnant and it lay dormant in his system all that time!
She has never had a cat though (she's not a animal lover--shhh!! LOL).

They told him it manifested itself in his eye (both diseases did this same thing) and they said his eyesight would not be 20/20 and would keep getting worse in that one eye.
But the truth of the matter is that years later, his eyesight is better than in his past and also better than 20/20. I do think the pupil of that eye has a different look sometimes but otherwise he seems fine.

I don't know how badly these babies are, DH was extremely sick and put into isolation and the whole bit at the hospital. How is the mother doing?

Sounds scary and I will be praying for them.
