Anyone have experience with a Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS. i have a chance to buy a used one from a neighbor who is selling his. He is a professional and I can get it for 900.00. I was thinking this would be a good nature lens and might work for the safari reide at animal kingdom? Any input would be welcomed.

I used one last year. I rented it for a few weeks for baseball season. Overall, I guess I wasnt impressed as much with the photos then the ones I get from the 70-200 f2.8 IS but it was nicer to have that reach. Also it is a bit slow and the games I shoot are usually at night under the lights so it was hard to use. I dont know if they came up with a new version but the push pull zoom feature really turned me off. Ask if you can use it for a bit before making the decision.

Considering they can go for $1000-$1200 used, it certainly is worth looking at. What will you be shooting with it? If its more for daytime use, then I think its a great lens. Worst comes to worst, you can easily sell it used for around $1000 and pay the extra $600 for a 70-200 f/2.8 IS ;)

I would use it for daytime shooting, I was talking to him about the canon 70-200 f2.8 IS that I wanted to get. Is till like the 70-200 better for it's lower f stop and wither would suite my needs. Also the 70-200 I feel would be more idle for taking to WDW.
