We've just bought a new home, scheduled to close on November 14th. We're having the kitchen cabs refaced and putting in a slate floor but I'm having trouble deciding on counter tops. I like granite well enough but it seems that EVERY home has granite now, even rentals and lower end new homes so I'm afraid it's going to be dated any day now. I'm leaning toward copper counter tops, I really like the look. Does anyone else have them, and what do you think? I'm not afraid of the upkeep, or the mellow patinaed look as they age. I have white tile with white grout countertops now so anything will be easier than that :) Thanks for any input.

No, but ohhhh, that sounds pretty!! It seems so fresh and classic all at once.

I just may have to copy:teeth: . But not for a LONG time. Our kitchen is only a few years old.

COOL IDEA! I love it! Only thing would worry about is knife marks/dents. And maybe what would happen if an acidic food spilled on it...tomato sauce would change the color wherever it splashed, I'd think. Maybe the sealant would take care of it. Grea idea, very creative!

I do not have copper countertops; however, in a recent magazine of mine (I think it was Southern Living) they featured a kitchen makeover and they used copper countertops. I had never seen nor heard of them before, but the effect was beautiful. There was no discussion on how well they held up, what the maintenance was, etc. But I loved the look.

I agree with you on the granite. I've never been wild about it myself.

I've a couple of friends who've recently got marble countertops - they have to be polished ALL THE TIME! No thanks, not for me.
Another pal has Iroko wood - it looks lovely but I think she has to spend a lot of time oiling it.
I saw in a magazine recently a splashback made of copper that had been gone over with a blow torch. The effect was multi-colored and fabulous looking. Don't know if it would work on a countertop?

I didn't even know they made copper counter tops. I love the idea, though. I'm off to try to find a photo of one. I'm intrigued.

Okay, I found a photo. I don't think I like this look with these particular cabinets

I thought about this for our new log home too, but the upkeep seemed difficult, so I am going with Baltic granite. BTW, we are also using a multi colored slate on the floor and Hickory cabinets. I AM going to use the patinated copper (greenish) faucets etc. that have an aged look.
