Hi! I know this has been asked before, but we are getting ready to head to WDW next week. Here is what I am trying to figure out.......

Saturday..check in OKW....water park, grocery store, Cirque

Sunday....move to VWL...park hop all day and have a blast the rest of the week :)

We want to get our grocery shopping done and out of the way on Saturday since it is the least busy day for us. We are checking into VWL very early Sunday, around 8am, and I know there is no way our room will be ready. But we want to store some cold food, such as milk, fruit, lunch meat, etc. We will have it in a collapsable cooler.

Will our food be stored in a fridge at VWL? We probably won't return back til the afternoon. I thought I read a post where some one asked to have their food stored in cold storage, and found it very warm when they returned!!! I called VWL and they told me no problem but I wanted to hear some first hand experience!

Thanks for any info!
Karen

We moved from OKW to BWV and had milk, cheese, several items that needed refrigeration because we'd been at OKW two days. We even had ice cream and frozen pizza! We moved at 11 AM and the room was not ready 'til about 3:30. All the food was nice and cold, even the frozen food. We did not have a cooler, but moved it in grocery bags. We separated the stuff that needed a freezer from the items that merely needed refrigeration. I was afraid that if we moved it in a cooler, then the cooler would protect it too well from the refrigeration!

One suggestion: the folks at OKW and BWV did suggest that we take the groceries over to BWV ourselves and hand it to the bell people so that they would be very aware that there were items needing refrigeration. We let Disney move the rest of the luggage.

When we stayed at VWL in March, our bellman forgot to put our groceries in cold storage. It was really kind of strange since he even took the time to make sure he looked through the grocery bags for the "cold" items and yet promptly forgot to put them in the fridge. Luckily, after checking in, dh decided to add something to our checked bags and happened to see our groceries still sitting there (it had been about an hour or so). Nothing was spoiled but it certainly would have been a problem if dh had not happened to check. I know from other posts that if something is ruined they will replace it from the VWL store but some of things we bought were not available there and would have necessitated a return trip to a grocery store so I was glad we did not end up having a problem.

So, my advice would be to check and double-check that your things have been put into storage. That way you can significantly lower your chances of having a problem.

Have a great trip!

We just did this a couple of weeks ago at BWV and everything was nice and cold when it arrived to our villa about 4 hours after we checked in.

Before we checked into OKW last month we stopped at a grocery store. We put the refrigerated items in our foam cooler. When we got to OKW, a bellman graciously placed our cooler inside their industrial refrigerator. I was concerned because I don'tstore things in styrofaom at home (like leftovers from a restaurant), but everything was fine when we got to our room. Our room was ready around 4 pm, so we did have to wait in line for a few minutes to retrieve our cooler, No big deal waiting though as we had a nice conversation with the members waiting in line behind us.
