Anyone have any experiance with the Del Sol Anaheim Resort?

Seeing as how its exactly 5 months until we'll be in DL, I think I should book a hotel.....
We are not picky about hotels (as we only use them for sleeping and showering) but I do want something that I'll feel comfortable in. Del Sol looks nice on the website but I wanted to see if I could get some DIS advice.

If anyone has any info to help me make a decision, I'd love to read it! Anything from how close it really is to the parks, are the rooms clean, are the staff friendly, does it seem like a safe place to sleep??

Sidenote....I'm also debating on trying out the Priceline bidding for the first time. Anyone have experiance with this? What hotels are normally won and what is the average winning bid for this area?

We stayed at the Del Sol 4 years ago so its been a while and my review may not be current or accurate for right now but here it is anyways.

We didn't like the Del Sol at all. The rooms were old, outdated and the mattresses were very low to the ground and old as well. My dh and I actually rolled to the middle of the mattresses so it wasn't very comfortable.
It's not the quickest walk as it is located directly across the street but behind a Denny's.

We won't stay there again. We usually like to stay at Hojo's or Park Vue Inn. We tried Anaheim Plaza last time and didn't care for it much. We've also tried Carousel Inn and that was okay.

As far as Priceline, I've never done that for Anaheim but there are lots of posts about this so you may have to do a search.

Thanks for your info. I will try searching for those priceline posts when I have some more time. Hopefully we can get a nicer hotel than what Del Sol seems to be.

We used Priceline last time we went to Disneyland. You specify the area around Disneyland, but that doesn't mean in the immediate vicinity. We got a hotel that was about two miles away, and was a huge hassle. It was a nice place, but the shuttle only ran once an hour, and sometimes it was too full to get on, etc. I would rather do a little research and pick exactly the hotel I want to be at, within walking distance of the park. And actually, I don't think we saved all that much money when all was said and done. Hopefully that helps you a bit!

I'm interested in knowing too about the Del Sol Inn. I'm getting a rate of $88 for Easter weekend. I have a ressie at the Quality Inn and Suites for $68, but the walk to DL is longer. Both have free parking and complimentary breakfast, which are amenities that we were trying to look for, but QI has double beds and Del Sol has queen beds. With this price difference, should we get the Del Sol Inn?

About Priceline, I can tell you that they only guarantee a room, and if you're looking for a room with two beds, you can end up with only one. You can always contact the hotel directly to ask for 2 beds, but they don't always fulfill your requests. I've used Hotwire a couple of times, always with great results, but for Anaheim I'm not willing to risk it because you may end up in a hotel not within walking distance. But unlike Priceline, you get to choose the number of people in the room, and you can use www.betterbidding.com to try to find out which hotel it is before paying.

Hi Kelly! Fellow Tucson here too. As to Del Sol.. I'd skip it. There are nicer budget hotels that are just as cheap, if not cheaper. You might check out Anaheim Desert Inn (really watch their rates.. booking out is best. They yo-yo a lot. Book when you think it's cheap. You can always cancel if you decide to, or if the rate goes down, rebook and cancel the first res.) and Anaheim Plaza Hotel.

My girls are I are staying in Anaheim Plaza during rodeo break, b/c the regular room with 2 queens is like only $55 a night. Then the whole family is going in May after school is out and we're staying in one of the suites at Anaheim Desert Inn. My preference on the 2 is Desert Inn, but that's mostly b/c it's so close to the crosswalk entrance. Otherwise I like both equally well.

Also, watch out for entertainment rates at Hojo's. That's a steal of a deal at the Entertainment rate! If you need an Entertainment card, just let me know. I have 2 books and wouldn't mind popping one in the mail to you. (Got my books at Costco.. they were running a promo and the books were only $14.99! Not sure if that's still the case? Might be worth checking if you have a membership and could use something else in the book other than the card).

Thanks for all the help. I'm definatly looking out for the Ent Rates at HOJO, but want to book something else thats cancel-able just in case.
I'll check out the Plaza and Desert and see how their rates are right now. We decided not to do Del Sol because they have a $15/day fee for wifi and DF wants his free wifi.

Anaheim is one of the best places to Priceline a room. We never stay in those overpriced 60's era motels surrounding Disneyland anymore. We pay anwhere from $38-48 for a three/four star hotel in the area. We have stayed at the Hilton across the street, the Marriott across the street, the Hyatt Regency down the street, the Marriott Suites, the Crowne Plaza, and the Hilton Suites. All these have been within walking distance or a very quick drive to Disneyland. Most do charge for parking, but the rate is so good, you usually pay less than the run down motels in the area.

We stayed at the Del Sol in Sep. of last year. It's nothing fancy and quite bare-bones but for a budget trip, it worked perfectly for us. We paid $62/night.

Our beds weren't very comfy but we slept fine. We were on the 2nd floor on the end near the stairs but with the fan on, we didn't hear people passing by much at all.

The bfast was pretty basic but it did the trick to tide us over until a mid-morning snack or lunch.

The pool & hot tub were nice and clean.

The walk is not long at all- you can go to Google Maps then do a street view to see just how far the walk is.

I would recommend it to someone who wants to visit on a budget and doesn't spend a ton of time in their room.

We stayed there last June and hated it.
I knew reviews were hit or miss here and other boards and I was taking a chance. But we had a suite which I thought would be nice but only 1 bathroom doesn't qualify a room to me as a suite.

We checked in and went to the park returning with exhausted kids at 11pm.
Pulled back the sheets to get in bed and noticed long dark hairs in the bed.Eww!

Pulled back the sheets and checked the boxspring (so glad I checked bedbugger.com before the trip) to inspect further and found a dead bed bug.
Freaked out! Called the front desk and asked for another room..sold out Stripped the bed and asked for new sheets. Sooo grossed out the entire trip could hardly sleep. I didn't see any "live" bugs but I didn't want to stay there.
I tried to switch hotels but everything was sold out. The manager was a complete jerk and denied the motel had bigs. So why was there an exterminator there after we checked out?

We went and had lunch at the pool before loading the kids in the car for a 6 hour drive back home.

When we got home I called to speak to the general manager and he was not helpful at all.

I stayed at the Del Sol in Feb of 09. I found it to be fine. I had no complaints about anything. Nothing was great but nothing was bad. A website said it's rooms are recently refurbished. I didn't know if this included my room or not, but the furniture and carpet did not show excess wear. I couldn't say this about the last few places I stayed. I think the low points are that the parking spots are tight and the breakfast is limited. The high points was the large room and closness to DL. I think there are only 4 hotels closer and one is the Grand Californian.

I booked through hotels.com and my bill was 249 for three nights, that includes tax.

I would stay there again if I got the same good rates. If I was paying their $100 per night rate I might pay $20 more to stay at the couple hotels that are closer.
