Anyone have a school threated to kick out your child? NEW UPDATE 12/22 on PG 5

Good luck! We've had similar problems, and I have had school personnel "gang up" on me during meetings. I finally got an attorney to go with me to meetings, and such a difference! They were even polite to me!

Well my DS just completed his first week at the new school. WOW, what a difference. He has not had any problems since switching. The teachers said nothing he did would be considered a problem at all, just some adjustments to the rules and schedules of the new school, no hitting or behavioral issues. The teachers are awsome there. He is getting his OT help with his small motor skills and sensory difficulties. We were really surprised by the difference in his writing after only two days at that school. He is eager to go to school and is making lots of friends. His teacher is so wonderful with him. She just loves him and can't say enough good things about his eagerness to learn. She knows what we went through and has been emailing me twice a day with updates on how he is doing so I don't wonder and worry. They said they can see how he gets frustrated because of his problems, but they are quick to jump right in and help him with ideas on how to cope. They are very confident that he will catch up with his peers within a month with the OT help and that he will continue to blossom at their school. It is just so good to finally see he is getting the correct help he needs. Thank you all for your help, support and encouragement. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season.

So happy to hear the good news! It's amazing what can happen with the correct diagnosis and treatment. DD still has "melt downs", but reminding her to "watch her engine" and use some of the coping strategies has helped tremendously.

Yours is such a success story!

I am an elementary school teacher that sees on a daily basis each parent's unique concerns. There are the very bright students who are not challenged enough and the struggling students whose parents feel we are too demanding. There are compliant children who are pushed to be more mature than they already are because they are made responsible for ignoring the other student's poor behavior and the behaviorally challenged students who are not getting the best education because they are over stimulated and, perhaps, misdiagnosed. We are supposed to give the best level of education even with a student yelling, pinching, hitting, and cussing. Or with them being withdrawn, empty, and unenthusiastic.

I am so glad that your son found a good place for his unique gifts and educational level. Please, everyone, stop to think about your school's teachers who all love kids and do their best to make their day a great and productive one. We are human and use everything we have learned and all the skills we have developed to make each and every student's experience the best it can be.
